This season of PARENTHOOD has been definitely packed with enough drama, and the writers are brilliantly beginning to close up storylines while offering us new ones to keep us busy and immersed enough in the show that presumably we forget that it's ending in, like, December/January. It's a smart move, though as you'll see below, I think the new plot lines in the final episodes of the season — not to mention the season's shortened 13-episode run, which this week drops us down to just 9 (single digits, people!) — will seem a bit rushed given the time length.
The episode begins with Zeek and Camille talking about the surgery — “The room's got a view” says Camille; “We can watch the squirrels fornicate” mutters Zeek — before the family stops by to wish him luck and offer hugs and words of strength and support. Zeek reassures them there's a 96% success rate, before spilling the beans to the whole family about Amber's pregnancy (before, only he and Sarah knew). Oops. Well, there goes that storyline too. Funny how these big buildups compare to the actual reveal.
Though many viewers were teased that the final season of PARENTHOOD was said to tie up loose ends (and while it may still indeed do that), you wouldn't know it from watching their first episode back from their summer hiatus.
Straight from the get-go, we're in the hospital and the “cliffhanger” (ruined by a particularly spoiling promo aired this summer) confirmed what we all were thinking: Amber's pregnant with Ryan's baby. I'm a little upset they didn't keep this cliffhanger going a little longer, but considering it's their final season, they've got much more to do than keep us wondering if the baby is Amber's. (Now we can focus on: will she keep it? With who else will she share the news?
On the next episode of Showtime's MASTERS OF SEX titled 'One For the Money, Two For the Show,' a television crew arrives to document Masters and Johnson's work. Check out clips from the episode below.
This week's MASTERS OF SEX benefited from two stand-out guest stars – Betsy Brandt and Christian Borle. That's not to say that our lead characters gave any less than they usually do, but these two and their storylines really gave punch-you-in-the-gut-fantastic performances.
