Angela Lansbury Says Lady Gaga Perfect for MAME on Broadway

As reported by Showbiz Tonight, 'Lady Gaga has just gotten a major shoutout from an acting legend. 85-year-old Angela Lansbury has just revealed to Showbiz Tonight, she wants Gaga to bring it to Broadway and play Mame, one of the stage's most over-the-top eccentrics. Lansbury, who won a Tony for originating the role in 1966, tells us Gaga could pull it off, more or less.' Lansbury herself went on to say that: 'She could sure wear the clothes, that's for sure...everything's possible.'

Wish Opera will present the operetta Rose Marie, composed by Friml and Stothart, with lyrics by Hammerstein II. Set in the Canadian Rockies, Rose Marie La Flamme, a French-Canadian girl, falls in love with miner Jim Kenyon, an English-Canadian boy; Mounties, music and mayhem ensue!

Wish Opera Presents ROSE MARIE, 4/15-16

Wish Opera will present the operetta Rose Marie, composed by Friml and Stothart, with lyrics by Hammerstein II. Set in the Canadian Rockies, Rose Marie La Flamme, a French-Canadian girl, falls in love with miner Jim Kenyon, an English-Canadian boy; Mounties, music and mayhem ensue! The charming score is full of popular melodies, including the much loved Indian Love Call - 'When I'm calling you...' These concerts mark Wish Opera debuts for both conductor Kerry Stratton and stage director Lesley Ballantyne. Starring as Rose Marie is the dynamic French-Canadian mezzo-soprano Maude Brunet; baritone Todd Delaney as Jim Kenyon; rounding out the cast are bass-baritone Olivier Laquerre; baritone Michael York; contralto Deborah Overes; mezzo-soprano Sarah Christina Steinert; actor Sundance Crowe; soprano Anne Marie Ramos; and bass Dan Mitton.

Merman, Sinatra's ANYTHING GOES Gets 3/29 DVD Release

In 1954, Ethel Merman, at the age of fifty, reprised her role as Reno in a specially adapted television version of the musical, co-starring Frank Sinatra as the hero, now renamed Harry Dane, and Merman's good friend Bert Lahr (who had co-starred with her on Broadway in DuBarry Was a Lady) as Moonface Martin.

Reprise Theatre Company Announces 2011-2012 Season

Reprise Theatre Company's 2011-2012 season features two classic American musicals at UCLA's Freud Playhouse - "Cabaret" (September 13 to September 25, 2011), based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood, music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, Broadway production directed by Harold Prince; "The Baker's Wife" (February 14 to 26, 2012), with book by Joseph Stein and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, based on the film 'La Femme de Boulanger' by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono; and a third production to be announced, which will play April 17 to 29, 2012.

(The celebration was originally scheduled to take place on April 26, 2010). The award, established last year in honor of America's most influential contemporary musical theater writer and composer, will be presented at a black-tie Gala Benefit at the Embassy of Italy. The 2010 Sondheim Award Gala is chaired by C. Daniel and Juliann Clemente; Honorary Hosts include actresses Catherine Zeta-Jones and Bernadette Peters, philanthropists Helen Henderson and Ted and Mary Jo Shen, and Congressman James Moran and LuAnn Bennett. The Sondheim Award Gala will benefit Signature Theatre's artistic, education, and community outreach programs.

Baldwin, Glover, et al. Begin 'Life Begins at 8:40' Library of Congress Show, 3/22

The Music Division of the Library of Congress will present the 1934 Harold Arlen/Ira Gershwin/Yip Harburg musical revue 'Life Begins at 8:40' in concert, its first live performance in 75 years, in the Library's Coolidge Auditorium at 10 First St., S.E., Washington, D.C., on Monday, March 22, 2010, at 8 p.m. Aaron Gandy will conduct the cast of 25 and the 24-piece orchestra.
