Orpheum's Summer Movie Series will continue with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Thursday, August 18th at 7:15 p.m. at The Orpheum Theatre.

Members of an avaricious Southern clan scramble to curry favor with dying, wealthy patriarch Harvey "Big Daddy" Pollitt (Burl Ives) in this Oscar-nominated adaptation of playwright Tennessee Williams' sizzling stage drama. Paul Newman stars as alcoholic ex-football star Brick Pollitt, whose self-pity and drunken malice jeopardize not only his inheritance, but also his marriage to the seductive Maggie (Elizabeth Taylor).

Join The Orpheum Theatre in paying tribute to Hollywood's "last major movie star" and screen icon, Elizabeth Taylor, with a game of Taylor trivia. Fans can also toast to the late Liz by purchasing a "Maggie the Cat", the evening's vodka and lemonade drink special.

Next will be The Wizard of Oz on Friday, August 19th at 7:15 p.m.

BACKGROUND: There's no place like home for young Dorothy (Judy Garland), who's been swept away from her farm in Kansas to a wonderland of munchkins, flying monkeys and different-colored horses. She must follow the Yellow Brick Road to the all-knowing Wizard of Oz to find her way home. Along the way, she meets the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), the Tin Man (Jack Haley) and the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), who help her fend off the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton).

Fans are invited to come downtown for dinner and movie at The Orpheum Theatre. Pizza will be available for just $2 a slice. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Wizard of Oz best for a chance to compete in an onstage costume contest. The pre-movie entertainment will also include a tap number piece by the Performing Arts of Germantown before the start of the film. Wizard of Oz sponsored by American Home Shield, Pickler Wealth Advisors and Renasant Bank.
