MUSE/IQUE, known for its counter-conventional performances that feel more like parties than formal concerts, continues 'Summer of Sound' 2013 with 'Moving Pictures' featuring groundbreaking cellist Matt Haimovitz and Emmy Award-winning actress Wendie Malick ('Hot in Cleveland') in a fresh take on motion picture scores by Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, Vangelis, Ennio Morricone, John Williams, Claude-Michel Schonberg and Erich Korngold as well as the world premiere of Sleepwalking, a concerto for cello and chamber orchestra with images by Peter Golub, prolific composer and director of Sundance's Film Music Program, tonight, July 27, 2013, 7:30 pm, outdoors at Caltech's Beckman Mall in Pasadena.

James Conlon Honored with 2012 Cohon Award

Conductor James Conlon received the 2012 Cohon Award from the Rabbi Samuel S. and A. Irma Cohon Memorial Foundation in a ceremony hosted by the Illinois Holocaust and EducationCenter in Skokie, IL on Tuesday, July 23. Mr. Conlon was honored with the Cohon Award in the "Creative Arts" field for his unique work in recovering the music of composers suppressed by the Nazi regime, thus contributing significantly both to Jewish history and to the world of music. The 2012 Cohon Award carries a prize of $30,000, which Mr. Conlon requested be directed to The OREL Foundation, www.orelfoundation.org, an invaluable resource on the topic of suppressed composers of the Twentieth Century for music lovers, students, musicians and scholars.

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra announces plans for the 2013.14 Chamber Series, which will be led by Associate Conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong and take place in several intimate venues around the Milwaukee area. All performances begin at 8:00 p.m. Programmed by Lecce-Chong, the series includes works from Bach, Handel, Bruckner, Vaughan Williams, and others.

As is its tradition, PNB is offering aspecial money-saving deal to celebrate the company's 41st season: Pay no service fees on tickets purchased thru July 31. Symphony Space, New York's home for innovative and diverse cultural programming on the Upper West Side, celebrates its 35th season of Music programs in 2013-14 with a stellar array of artists in imaginative, thought-provoking presentations. Curated by Artistic Director Laura Kaminsky, the offerings range from marathon celebrations to intimate recitals, encompassing a rich variety of musical styles. Highlights include a visit from Krzysztof Penderecki, October 25; the fifth THE MUSIC OF NOW MARATHON, with the dream-inspired theme of 'REM: Rapid Ear Movement,' February 1; and appearances by Dar Williams, Tom Paxton, Christine Lavin, and other icons of folk/acoustic music. Capping the season is SLEEPING AROUND, a multidisciplinary festival celebrating the culture, history, art, scene, and scandal of New York's most famous hotels, highlighted by WALL TO WALL SLEEPING AROUND on May 3.

The Actors Touring Company, Young Vic Theatre, Brageteatret & Schauspielhaus Wien will take their co-production, THE EVENTS, written by David Greig, on the road beginning this month. Directed by Ramin Gray, with music by John Browne, the show will play Edinburgh Fringe Fest before launching into a full UK tour. The entire itinerary is below.

Juilliard's Drama Division announces the 2013-2014 season of fully-staged productions featuring Juilliard's 43rd group of acting students in their fourth and final year in the drama program at Juilliard. This season's plays include Jeffrey Hatcher's Smash, directed by Victor Pappas; Amy Herzog's The Great God Pan, directed by Maria Mileaf; and Sam Shepard's Buried Child, directed by Daniel Fish. All performances take place in the Stephanie P. McClelland Drama Theater at Juilliard.
Gotham Chamber Opera Announces Composer in Residence Program, Applications Due 7/18

Gotham Chamber Opera together with Opera Philadelphia and Music-Theatre Group is proud to announce the third track in the nation's first comprehensive, operatic Composer In Residence program. Funded initially by a $1.4 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the program has received an additional $330,000 from the foundation to provide a third professional development path for one of today's most promising opera composers, selected on a competitive basis. Applications are being accepted from June 20-July 18, 2013.
