Soul Rep Theatre Company has announced its next production in The Parrish Charitable Foundation August Wilson Play Series, GEM OF THE OCEAN, by legendary playwright August Wilson.
Orlando Shakes, in partnership with the University of Central Florida and Arden Theatre Company, will commission a new stage adaptation of Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God. Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright James Ijames will develop the adaptation through workshops, readings, and co-world premieres. The project continues Ijames’ longstanding collaboration with Arden Theatre Company.

Why all of these limited runs? Shows with celebrities in them make sense, they have busy schedules, and setting aside 16 or 20 weeks to rehearse and perform in a Broadway show is a non-trivial juggling act. But increasingly there has been a trend of limited runs, even absent celebrity casting.
