Denton Community Theatre is very excited to present West Side Story, book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and conception/choreography by Jerome Robbins.

The Main Stage, Inc. of Mishawaka, Indiana is pleased to announce their 10 year anniversary summer production will be 'West Side Story', the classic American musical! West Side Story will be performed at the Bendix Theatre of Century Center in South Bend, Indiana on August 12 and 13, 2016. This story is a timeless classic that resonates to ages old and young, and brings us a powerful message in todays society.

Now, Valley Performing Arts Center will kick-off the new season and its Broadway series on September 30 at 8:00pm with a one night only concert performance of Dear World, starring Tony and Emmy Award winner Tyne Daly in the role of Countess Aurelia.

'Gypsy,' a musical fable, with book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim will open the season on MTC's Mainstage in Norfolk. Considered by many to be the greatest American musical, this story of the ultimate stage mother is intimately reimagined in the style of MTC MainStage's acclaimed productions of 'Cabaret' and 'Evita.'

Three big musicals and an Arthur Miller classic will be released in November.

Just announced, Tony and Drama Desk Award winner Cady Huffman will end her run in Off-Broadway's Shear Madness on August 21st. Cady assumed the role of Mrs. Shubert June 20th. She will be replaced by Lisa McMillan. Also joining the cast is Gil Brady replacing Adam Gerber in the role of Eddie Lawrence. The producers are have also announced a new batch of tickets on sale through January 8th, 2017.

Due to overwhelming demand, Theatre Under the Stars' (TUTS) acclaimed productions of Disney's Beauty and the Beast & West Side Story will extend their runs by one week. These seven newly added performances will see the shows run at Stanley Park's picturesque Malkin Bowl (on alternating evenings) through to August 27, 2016.

Being there are many productions of the iconic musical West Side Story running at any one time, it is imperative that the cast be absolutely brilliant. Indeed, the company at The Noel S. Ruiz Theatre at CM Performing Arts Center does not disappoint under the outstanding direction of Martin Aviles, who has been in several productions of West Side Story himself. This dazzling production, playing through August 28th at the Oakdale venue, will leave you extremely impressed with the incredible talent Long Island has to offer.

Fresh off her Tony Award-nominated role in Roundabout Theater Company's critically-acclaimed Broadway revival of She Loves Me, Tony Award winner Laura Benanti returns to Feinstein's at the Nikko with her new show, Tales from Soprano Isle, for three performances only - tonight, July 29 (8 p.m.), tomorrow, July 30 (7 p.m.) and Sunday, July 31 (3 p.m.).

Robert Cuccioli and Glory Crampton will reunite at a special gathering for the official release of the new cast recording of the York Theatre Company production of Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Sherman Yellen's musical Rothschild & Sons on Monday, July 25 at 6:00pm at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

Conducted by Gustavo Dudamel July 14, through July 19, the cast features Jeremy Jordan as Tony, Karen Olivo, who won a Tony Award for her take on the role in the 2009 Broadway revival, as Anita and newcomer Solea Pfeiffer as Maria.

Happy Birthday Arthur Laurents! Laurents' first play, Home of the Brave, opened on Broadway in 1945, followed by many others. He wrote his first musical, West Side Story, in 1957, followed by Gypsy and others. His first screenplay was The Snake Pit in 1948, followed by others including Rope, Anastasia, The Way We Were and The Turning Point. His own play, Invitation to a March in 1960, was the first of several he directed. I Can Get It for You Wholesale in 1961 was the first musical he directed, followed by others including La Cage aux Folles and Gypsy with Angela Lansbury, then Tyne Daly and most recently, Patti LuPone. He pased away in May 2011.

Cygnet Theatre continues its award-winning run of presenting some of the most beloved stage musicals of our time when it opens its 14th season next summer.

Broadway Rose could perhaps not have picked a more fitting time to bring us Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein, and Stephen Sondheim's WEST SIDE STORY. Right now, our country and several others around the world are in dire need of a reminder that when gangs face off, there is no happy ending. Violence that is rooted in blind hatred and fear has tragic consequences -- for everybody.
