The Theatre School at DePaul University has announced the 2013-2014 season. Founded as the Goodman School of Drama in 1925, The Theatre School presents public programming as a professional extension of the classroom. The National Board of Review has deemed Kathryn Bigelow's ZERO DARK THIRTY the best film of the season. The award comes only three days after the film took the top honors in the New York Film Critics Circle awards.

Inspired by a chilling true story, Compliance explores just how far one might go to obey a figure of authority. On a particularly busy day at the local ChickWich, the fast food joint's high-strung manager Sandra (Ann Dowd, Garden State) receives a phone call from a police officer saying her employee Becky (Dreama Walker, "Don't Trust the B____ in Apt. 23") has stolen money from a customer.

Sunday, January 8 at 4pm Smoke Jazz Club will presents a reading of Frank Christopher's play Flutter By's, a play that pushes the suspension of disbelief envelope. The comedy is set in turbulent New York circa 2001 and examines the lives of the O'Neil family and the lives of their son Anthony's childhood friends. The show will star Michael Cunio, America Olivo, Christian Campbell, Lou Liberatore, Ann Dowd, Brian Kerwin, Lea DeLaria, Annette Hunt, Gerardo Gudino, Eric Michael Gillett and Cindy Cheung.

First-time playwright Tommy Nohilly seems intent on ramming edgy family dysfunctions in the audience's faces with Blood From A Stone.  Unfortunately there's no play underneath to support it all.  Director Scott Elliott and The New Group do a heck of a good job covering up the flaws of the text most of the time, but the nearly three hours of animosity and head-banging symbolism can't help looking very silly now and then, despite the skilled ensemble.
