Marking an exciting new era for Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) and classical music in Los Angeles, Jaime Martín makes his first appearance as Music Director when the 2019-20 season launches on Saturday, September 28, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre, and Sunday, September 29, 2019, 7 pm, at Royce Hall. Martín opens his inaugural season of sweeping programming with the world premiere of Begin, a LACO commission by Andrew Norman. The program also features Berlioz' Les nuits d'été, one of the composer's most popular works, featuring mezzo soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, and Beethoven's celebratory Symphony No. 7. A pre-concert conversation with Martín and 2019 Pulitzer Prize Winner Ellen Reid, who succeeds Norman this season as LACO's Creative Advisor and Composer-in-Residence, takes place at 7 pm on Saturday and 6 pm Sunday. Following swings through South Korea, Japan, and Scotland, the Los Angeles Philharmonic will conclude its Centennial global tour in November 2019 with performances and residencies in Mexico City, London, Boston, and New York, under the guidance of Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel. Programs will feature established repertoire by composers including Bruckner, Stravinsky, and Ginastera, in combination with regional premieres of LA Phil commissions by John Adams, Paul Desenne, Andrew Norman, and Gabriela Ortiz. New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), is proud to continue its mission of educating and inspiring young musicians through its Orchestra, Jazz, Chamber Music, Composition, Musical Theater Composition, Apprenticeship Conducting, and First Music commissioning programs. Thierry Fischer today announced plans to conclude his tenure as Music Director of the Utah Symphony in August 2022. Upon stepping down at the end of the 2021–22 season, he will have led the Utah Symphony as Music Director for 13 years, during which time he has revitalized the orchestra and raised its national and international profile through creative programming, renewed excellence in performance, and ambitious tours and recording projects. In September 2022, he will assume the title of Music Director Emeritus, in which capacity he will continue his musical relationship with the orchestra through regular return engagements.

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts presents pianist Inon Barnatan, recently named music director of the La Jolla's prestigious SummerFest, who makes his Wallis debut with an adventurous program of piano suites by Bach, Handel, Ligeti and others on Saturday, June 22, 2019, 7:30 pm, at The Wallis' Bram Goldsmith Theater. The solo recital features Handel's Chaconne in G Major, HWV, 442, Couperin's L'Atalante, Ravel's Rigaudon from Le Tombeau de Couperin, Bach's Allemande from Partita in D Major, BWV, 828, and Ades' Blanca Variations. Barnatan also performs Ligeti's Musica Ricercata, Nos. 11 & 10, Rameaus's Courante from Suite in A minor, RCT. 5, Barber's Fugue from Sonata for Piano, Op. 26, and Brahms' Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, Op. 24. Boston Court Pasadena continues its mission of fostering new musical talent with the 3rd Annual Emerging Artists Series, May 30 June 9, 2019. The series will feature up-and-coming pianists, as well as vocalists who have been through a rigorous mentoring curriculum with some of Los Angeles' most prominent musicians and coaches including Mark Robson, Gloria Cheng, Lisa Sylvester, Vicki Ray, Brent McMunn and Paul Floyd.
This spring, Music Director Thierry Fischer and the Utah Symphony continue their Saint-Saëns recording cycle on Hyperion Records with Volume 2, comprising Symphony No. 2 in A minor, the Symphony in F major (“Urbs Roma”), and Danse macabre, featuring concertmaster Madeline Adkins. Launched to critical acclaim last winter, the three-volume set will be the first complete, commercial recording of Saint-Saëns's five symphonies by an American orchestra, as well as the orchestra's first recording project with independent British label Hyperion. Volume 2 is included among the label's May 2019 releases and is available digitally and in the UK on Friday, April 26 and in North America on Friday, May 3. Utah Symphony and Utah Opera (USUO) unveil a series of creative projects to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Golden Spike, the ceremonial final spike that joined the rails of America's First Transcontinental Railroad at Promontory Summit, Utah in 1869. After a concert with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on Friday, May 10 at 8:00 p.m.-exactly 150 years to the day since the railroad's completion-USUO presents performances throughout the month of May that feature works newly composed to mark this anniversary. These events and many others are highlighted as part of Spike 150 (spike150.org), a statewide effort to celebrate the Golden Spike.

It has been announced that Daniel Kellogg will become the President of Young Concert Artists, effective July 1, 2019. This follows the incredible 58-year-tenure of Founder and current Director, Susan Wadsworth, who will continue as Creative Consultant through 2020-2021 helping to plan the 60th Anniversary of Young Concert Artists.
In its Centennial year, the Los Angeles Philharmonic continues to grow in its commitment to supporting the creation of new music and nurturing young composers through two programs: National Composers Intensive (NCI), for composers ages 18 to 30, and the Nancy and Barry Sanders Composer Fellowship Program (CFP) for high school-aged composers. For the first time, the NCI program collaborates with New York City-based International Contemporary Ensemble (the Ensemble) to work with seven composers who will have the opportunity to workshop their pieces, both in New York and in Los Angeles, culminating in a performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
