Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Will Present the World Premiere of Juan Pablo Contreras' LUCHA LIBRE!

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO), led by Music Director Jaime Martín, presents the world premiere of Juan Pablo Contreras' Lucha Libre!, a LACO Sound Investment Commission, on Saturday, March 28, 8 pm, at Glendale's Alex Theatre, and Sunday, March 29, 2020, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall. The program also features renowned pianist Denis Kozhukhin on Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major and R. Strauss's orchestral suite Le Bourgeois gentihomme. 

BWW Interview: Four Larks' Mat Sweeney - A Teddy Bear of a FRANKENSTEIN To Work With

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and Four Larks have teamed up to present their world premiere of Four Lark's adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic FRANKENSTEIN, beginning February 12, 2020. In conjunction with the novel's 200th anniversary, the collaborative creative forces of Four Larks, headed by its co-founders Mat Sweeney and Sebastian Peters-Lazaro, re-imagine Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN to question the moral responsibility of each new generation. Mat managed to squeeze a few spare moments between rehearsals and being honored with his latest award to respond to my quizzical questions.

When Franz Schubert died at age 31, the sum total of all his worldly goods accumulated in his bohemian lifestyle included clothing, bedding and some books. The official legal inventory concluded, a?oeNo belongings of the deceased are to be found.a?? The composer's manuscripts were in the hands of a friend who later gave them to Schubert's brother, Ferdinand. In the coming months, Ferdinand sold countless songs, chamber music and solo piano music to a publisher, but Schubert's larger orchestral works and operas gathered dust on a shelf.

Los Angeles Philharmonic Has Announced Their 020/21 Walt Disney Concert Hall Season

Los Angeles Philharmonic Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel and David C. Bohnett Chief Executive Officer Chair Chad Smith today announced the 2020/21 Walt Disney Concert Hall season featuring three trailblazing new projects: Pan-American Music Initiative and America: The Stories We Tell led by Gustavo Dudamel and Seoul Festival curated by Unsuk Chin; the premieres of 27 LA Phil commissions; the revival of LA Phil productions including the landmark Tristan Project collaboration of Esa-Pekka Salonen, Peter Sellars and Bill Viola; and performances by world-renowned guest artists including Yuja Wang, Hélène Grimaud, Lang Lang, Itzhak Perlman, Yefim Bronfman, Leila Josefowicz, Katia and Marielle Labèque and Barbara Hannigan.

Maestro Fischer Conducts Two Masterworks Weekends With Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto And Dvořák's Symphony No. 8

The Utah Symphony Masterworks series continues with Maestro Fischer and Utah Symphony for Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto the last week in January, followed by an evening of Gershwin and Dvořák the first weekend in February. On January 31 and February 1 violinist Karen Gomyoa?"praised by the Chicago Tribune as a?oea??a first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance and intensitya??a?"will bring her talents to Abravanel Hall. The following weekend, February 7 & 8, pianist Joyce Yang and Utah Symphony will take the audience on a journey of jazz and classical music meeting. Next Music From Copland House Concert Announced At The Graduate Center, CUNY

Having just triumphantly launched its ambitious new concert series in collaboration with The Graduate Center of the City University of New York, the Music from Copland House ensemble returns for The Listening Eye, a program as vibrantly colored in sound as in sight. Eye meets ear at this multi-media concert of music inspired by line drawings and paintings by Pablo Picasso, bold abstracts of Robert Motherwell, stained glass of Frank Lloyd Wright, and ancient ceramics and statuary of the Incas. The hour-long program is the second in the ensemble's series showcasing a century of America's rich musical legacy, and takes place on Monday, December 2 at 7.30pm at the acoustically-superb Baisley Powell Elebash Hall in the heart of Manhattan.

Esprit Orchestra to Present Andrew Norman's 'Sustain'

Ever wonder what orchestral music will be like one hundred years from now? American composer Andrew Norman considered just that when composing his recent work, Sustain, the title piece of Esprit Orchestra's next concert. On Sunday December 1, 2019 in Koerner Hall, Esprit's 37th concert season continues with Sustain. In addition to Norman's work, the concert includes the World Premiere of Toronto composer Adam Scime's new violin concerto, Afterglow, which will be performed by guest artist Véronique Mathieu. José Evangelista's heart-quickening work Accelerando will receive a repeat performance on the program, after being well received by listeners during Esprit's 2016-2017 concert season.

Utah Symphony Announces Contract Extension For Conner Gray Covington Through 2021-22 Season

Utah Symphony | Utah Opera and Music Director Thierry Fischer announced an extension of Conner Gray Covington's contract through the 2020-21 season, and a retention of his two titles as Utah Symphony Associate Conductor and Principal Conductor of the Deer Valley Music Festival, the latter of which he received in Spring 2019. The agreement extends the current contract, set to expire at the end of the 2019-20 season, for an additional year until August 31, 2021.

Thierry Fischer And Utah Symphony's All-Prokofiev Album To Be Released By Reference Recordings, October 25

On the first of three Utah Symphony recordings to be released this season, Music Director Thierry Fischer and the orchestra perform Prokofiev's only two-concert works to be based on his music for film—the symphonic suite from Lieutenant Kijé and the Alexander Nevsky cantata. Lieutenant Kijé is a 1934 Soviet satire of Czarist Russia that is best remembered for Prokofiev's score, while Alexander Nevsky, a 1938 historical drama directed by Sergei Eisenstein, is now considered a classic of Russian cinema.
