Get ready to be transported back to the vibrant '80s as Blue Sky Theatre Productions presents Di and Viv and Rose by Amelia Bullmore at Marion Cultural Centre from August 2 to 11.
What did our critic think of DI AND VIV AND ROSE at THE PUMPHOUSE Theatre, Takapuna, Auckland?Don't we all hunger for human connection? Love? Support? Laughter? Directed superbly, with exquisite attention to detail, by Stephanie McKellar- Smith, the action of this emotionally-charged play centres on the powerful bond between three women. The cast (Lisa Chappell, Eilish Moran, Jodie Dorday) is exceptional and there isn’t a moment when we are not captivated. Enacted with psychological, physical and emotional truth - faces, voices and movement ensure that right from the outset, we have a clear indication of the personality, values, attitudes and ambitions of the three “girls”. The 1980s was indeed a time of shift
Eighteen new plays for the inaugural New Play Commission Scheme (NPCS) have been announced by the Writers' Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) in partnership with HighTide theatre company, UK Theatre and the Independent Theatre Council.
The play is so well chosen for this collective. It is a truth universally acknowledged, at least by me and my mentor, Myk Mykyta, that most modern plays are twenty minutes too long. Contemporary audiences have been conditioned by films and, especially, television to pick up the thread of a story very quickly. After all every millisecond of screen time costs 'squillions'. Live theatre can take its time and, while this new show from The Corseted Rabbits Collective, at Rumpus, Di and Viv and Rose, could be twenty minutes shorter, the establishment of character and story is done with such warmth and focus as to carry you along nicely.

Three women are thrown together in their late teens. They are very different people, but it isn't long before they're living in each other's pockets. Life is a blast, and together they can do anything. But life also has unexpected plans for them…
