STAGES to Present ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, 5/10-11

Stages, A Children's Theatre Workshop, Inc., brings back a Once Upon a Mattress to Bay Street. Fifty-four years ago, Once Upon a Mattress, a romantic and hilarious musical version of 'The Princess and the Pea', opened on Broadway to the delight of theatergoers young and old. It won the hearts of its audiences with an inventive and raucous twist on the old story. Stages, is excited to present this fractured fairy tale at the Bay Street Theatre on Saturday, May 10, at 2pm and 7:30pm; and Sunday, May 11, at 2pm. And in celebration of Mother's Day on May 11, all mothers will be Queen-for-a-day, with a crown compliments of Stages.

World Premiere of Matthew Freeman's WHY WE LEFT BROOKLYN to Play Fourth Street Theater, 8/29-9/21

Theater Accident, in association with Blue Coyote Theater Group, are thrilled to present the world premiere of WHY WE LEFT BROOKLYN, written by Matthew Freeman and directed by Kyle Ancowitz. WHY WE LEFT BROOKLYN begins performances on Thursday, August 29 for a limited engagement through Saturday, September 21. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Saturday at 7:30 PM, with added performances on Sunday, September 8 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, September 15 at 2 PM. Vox Theater to Premiere THE RELUCTANT LESBIAN at FringeNYC, 8/10-19

In a theater season dominated by color blind casting controversies, The Reluctant Lesbian, premiering at the 2012 New York International Fringe Festival and produced by Vox Theater, has embraced the challenges that race can create in developing new plays. Performances begin at the Cherry Lane Studio (38 Commerce Street) on Friday, August 10.

Sink or Swim has announced THE CHANGE SEASON: A reparatory of David Auburn's PROOF, directed by Jessi D. Hill and Oscar Wilde's AN IDEAL HUSBAND, directed by Michael Hardart. The rotating repertory will play a four-week limited engagement at The Connelly Theater (220 East 4th Street, NYC). Performances begin tonight, July 5 and continue through Sunday, July 29. PROOF Opening Night is Tuesday, July 10 (7 p.m.). AN IDEAL HUSBAND Opening Night is Wednesday, July 11 (8 p.m.).

Metropolitan Playhouse Presents THE HOUSE OF MIRTH, 4/27-5/20

The Metropolitan Playhouse, a 2011 Obie Award winner, will present a revival of The House of Mirth, by Edith Wharton and Clyde Fitch. The play now receives the first professional revival in its 1906 cutting since, directed by Alex Roe at Metropolitan's home: 220 E 4th Street.

Schauer Center Presents SEUSSICAL: THE MUSICAL, JR., 1/13-24

Dr. Seuss's best-loved stories collide at the Schauer Arts & Activities Center on Friday, January 13 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, January 14 at 2:00 and 7:30 pm. Audiences will be charmed by the noble Horton the Elephant, the one-feathered bird Gertrude McFuzz, and the antics of the Cat in the Hat in this musical adventure.
