When your audience obliges the orchestra Overture by almost reflexively snapping along to the theme song of its 1960's sitcom predecessor, it's clear that they are acquainted with the classic Addam's Family. The delightfully macabre next door neighbors from the dark side are iconic- patriarch, Gomez Addams (Jesse Sharp), his lovely vampirish wife, Morticia (Keleen Snowgren), their two children- the diabolical, Pugsley (Connor Barth) and his "innocent" torture-loving sister, Wednesday (Jennifer Fogarty). The family tree extends to include portly bald-headed Uncle Fester (Shaun Rice), Frankenstein-like butler, Lurch (Ryan Jacob Wood), and a Grandma (Amanda Bruton) of questionable lineage. The characters look their parts, with spot-on costuming by Phelim McDermott, but that's largely where the similarities end.

Yesterday's shots include the first SIP from BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, Atlantic Theater Comapny's THE THREEPENNY OPERA, Off-Broadway's DISASTER!, HARMONY in Los Angeles, plus the national tour of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!

It's no great work of art, but it's a lot of fun, and it's a great way to exercise those snapping fingers. 'The Addams Family' musical has gone through a lot of changes since its successful Broadway run, most of them made for the better. Although you can't get more talent than the original cast's Bebe Neuwerth and Nathan Lane, the current second national tour perfectly brings to life, or death, the quirky characters and story.

They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, they're altogether ooky, the Addams Family. I bet you just sang that in your head as you read it, am I right? You maybe event went back to read it again, snapping your fingers through the imaginary iconic musical intro to one of the most memorable television show theme songs in history.

Just be sure to not make any "Snap Judgments." Building upon the social commentary which has permeated The Addams Family brand since its beginning, The Addams Family: A Musical Comedy has created a new educational community outreach program called "No Snap Judgments," which addresses the problem of bullying in the schools. For years the "Family" and its creator Charles Addams has challenged us, in a variety of media formats (cartoons, books, television, movies, and theatre), to look beyond first impressions and personal expectations of what is "normal". It is this challenge that Camp Broadway and the Addams Family Musical bring to classrooms in No Snap Judgments, the first of a series of project-based, digital learning modules emanating from contemporary theater productions.
