Space 55 to Open the New Year with UBU ROI

Alfred Jarry's absurdist classic returns to the Space 55 stage for its 10th anniversary season! What to expect during UBU ROI? It's the time-honored story of what happens when a big fat idiot is put in charge of a country, with lots of war, blood, guts, food fights, magic, shouting, puppets, chaos, hilarity, horror and the just plain bizarre sprinkled into the mix.

Space 55's new Artistic Director Duane Daniels announces the alternative theater's 10th Anniversary Main-Stage Season. (Please note: This is a change from any previous announcements) Performances are typically Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, with early curtain time for First Fridays at 7:30 pm.

PAPAYA Announces Change in Leadership

The American Repertory Theater expands its 2015/16 Season programming with the OBERON Presents series, featuring a range of artists, companies, and programs. As the second stage of the A.R.T., a unique club theater venue, OBERON challenges artists to explore new relationships with space, performance, and audience experience. OBERON hosts a range of experimental work -- these shows invite audiences to listen to new voices and to hear old stories in new ways. This exploration is integral to A.R.T.'s mission to expand the boundaries of theater.

Preview performances are set for Today, June 10 and Thursday, June 11 at 8 p.m. Opening night is Friday, June 12 at 8 p.m. and the show closes on Sunday, June 28 at 6 p.m. Performances are scheduled for Todays, Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. Running time is one hour and 40 minutes with one 15 minute intermission. The theatre is located at 549 W. 52nd Street, 3rd Floor, near 11th Ave., subway C/E 50th St.

Putting on a play about him is daunting but Richard Heinrich of Spooky Action Theater has taken on this heady task. 'Jarry Inside Out' offers us an evening that is likely to leave some exhilarated, others exhausted, but everyone intrigued.

Medicine Show Theatre Announces Premiere of UBU IN CHAINS

Medicine Show Theatre Ensemble, one of New York's longest-running experimental theatres, will open Ubu in Chains by Alfred Jarry in June, using an original translation by Obie-winning Medicine Show artistic director Barbara Vann.

Canadian Stage to Host 'Spotlight South Africa' in April

Canadian Stage presents Nongogo, The Meal, Hatched, Ubu and the Truth Commission, Dominion and Chandelier in a three-week festival of South African performance as part of Spotlight South Africa. A tribute to the extraordinary vitality and originality of artistic work produced in the country, the festival will feature a variety of dance, drama, performance art and puppetry from Apr. 8 to 25 at Canadian Stage's two homes, the Berkeley Street Theatre (26 Berkeley St.) and the Bluma Appel Theatre (27 Front St. E).

Danny Elfman, Druid Theatre, National Ballet of China, Cleveland Orchestra and More Set for Lincoln Center Festival 2015

Nigel Redden, Director of Lincoln Center Festival, today announced the line-up for the 20th edition of the Festival, which runs from July 6 through August 2, 2015. The Festival will unfold in six venues on and off the Lincoln Center campus. There will be a total of 58 performances by artists and ensembles from Germany, China, England, Ireland, Russia, USA, and Japan.

CSULB University Players & Four Clowns' UBU THE SH*T Opens Tonight

Running tonight, November 21- December 7, the CSULB University Players and Los Angeles-based clown troupe Four Clowns will present a modern retelling of French playwright Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi entitled Ubu the Sh*t. Four Clowns' Artistic Director and CSULB Theatre Arts alum Jeremy Aluma has adapted Jarry's script and is directing this collaborative production. With clown training and techniques incorporated into the rehearsal process by Aluma and members of the Four Clowns company, the undergraduate cast has been given the opportunity to explore the art of clown first-hand by some of Los Angeles' most experienced clown teachers, creating a truly unique version of Jarry's absurdist comedy. For many of the undergraduate actors in Ubu, this is their first experience with working in the art of clown.

The Riant Theatre Kicks Off 2014 STRAWBERRY ONE-ACT FESTIVAL Today

The Riant Theatre under the direction of Artistic Director Van Dirk Fisher, has announced its 26th Anniversary season lineup for the Strawberry One-Act Festival, which consists of 21 new one-acts and 3 full length plays that will run today, August 20th -- August 31st at the Theatre at St. Clement's, 423 West 46th St.
