It’s been a while since Liz Callaway last performed on a Nashville stage – it was a performance of “The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber” with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra – and longer still since the time she auditioned for Opryland USA while still a high school student (she wasn’t cast, but more about that later…), so sharing the stage of Andrew Jackson Hall with her longtime pal and confidant Jason Graae on Saturday, August 20, is something she eagerly anticipates.

Fresh on the heels of smash-hit cabaret show Celia Berk will release a new album on the Grammercy Nightengale Music label.

Returning to Birdland after the sold-out debut of this show in April, Akers once again takes a look back at some of the songs that first brought her attention in cabaret as well as on Broadway, television, and recordings: works by Craig Carnelia, Maury Yeston, Edith Piaf, and Stephen Sondheim, among other treasures.

Even after a brief telephone conversation – which covers as many subjects as time will allow – it’s quite clear that Jason Graae is not only an acclaimed actor, entertainer and stage/film/tv performer. He is, at his very core, a raconteur (which is a fancy French way of saying he can tell a great story).

Birdland presented singer/actress Karen Akers, who premiered a brand new, very personal concert on Monday, April 25.  The show, titled “Water Under The Bridge,” was musical directed by Alex Rybeck, with Tom Hubbard on bass.

BIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB will present acclaimed vocalist and songwriter Amanda McBroom in her new show “Crimes of the Heart” on Monday, May 2 at 7:00 PM. McBroom’s concert will feature songs of passion, politics, and just plain love, written by the likes of Stephen Sondheim, Irving Berlin, Leonard Cohen, and of course, Amanda McBroom.

The legendary cabaret artiste and Broadway alum will make her Birdland debut but, til that happens, Broadway World Cabaret will make a YouTube exploration.
