Review: AMÉLIE at New Athenaeum Theatre

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland embraces playfulness in this quirky production of Amélie based on the 2001 French film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The piece follows shy, imaginative Parisian woman Amélie (Aida Valentine), who secretly orchestrates acts of kindness to improve the lives of others... while slowly building the courage to pursue her own love story with the eccentric Nino (William Collier).

ZILLA AND ZOE Shoots A Horror Movie And Shows In Theatres May 17

Zilla and Zoe is an indie comedy from director Jessica Scalise. Focusing on a young filmmaker and an upcoming wedding, this title was shot in Portland, Oregon. Set to be released by Indican Pictures, Zilla and Zoe stars Aida Valentine as Zoe, along with: Greg James (Between the Trees), Sam Kamerman (The Librarians) and Kurt Conroyd. This title will show, in theatres and in at least five cities, this May.

Portland Center Stage at The Armory's 30th anniversary season opens with the groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home. Created by Jeanine Tesori (music) and Lisa Kron (book and lyrics) and based on the celebrated graphic memoir by Alison Bechdel, Fun Home will begin preview performances on September 16, open September 22, and run through October 22 on The Armory's U.S. Bank Main Stage. Artistic Director Chris Coleman will direct a cast lead by Allison Mickelson, Sara Masterson and Aida Valentine as the central character, Alison, at three different ages. Robert Mammana (previously at The Armory as Skye Masterson in Guys and Dolls and Father in Ragtime) and Faith Sandberg will play Alison's parents, Bruce and Helen Bechdel.

Can a hairless, little squirrel change the human heart? After getting sucked up by a Ulysses 2000x vacuum cleaner, a squirrel is rescued by Flora Belle Buckman, a 10-year-old self-proclaimed cynic. She names him Ulysses and discovers he has been reborn a superhero. Indeed, this once average squirrel can suddenly understand Flora, fly, and even write poetry. Together they embark on an adventure full of quirky characters and bursting with heart.
