Redcat Launches 'Radar LA' Festival, 6/14-20

REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater) announces preliminary program highlights for RADAR L.A., an international festival of contemporary theater running June 14-20. The festival is produced by REDCAT in collaboration with Center Theatre Group and The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival (New York), and a consortium including Theatre Communications Group, the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, LA Stage Alliance and the Los Angeles Theatre Center. $50 multi-event passes go on sale in April and will allow audiences to attend performances for as little as $10.

The National Theatre's epic WAR HORSE, now a five-time Tony® Award nominee currently playing at Lincoln Center Theater and in the West End in London, will embark on a national tour in June 2012, bringing the hit play to 20 U.S. cities during the 2012-2013 season.

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that WAR HORSE, which just opened at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre last week, is gearing up for a national tour, as well as a separate sit-down Toronto production. While details on the tour have not yet been announced, the show will play Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theatre from June 13 - July 22, 2012. The Toronto production is set to open in February of 2012.

In the wake of the news of an online search for the next 'Funny Girl' Fanny Brice in the upcoming revival of the show, The New York Times reveals today that director Bartlett Sher was in talks with GLEE diva Lea Michele for the role, though her participation is unlikely due to her GLEE commitments next season when Funny Girl begins production.

Kirk and Anne Douglas Give $2 Million in Grants to CTG

Kirk Douglas and his wife, Anne, continue to give generously to the art form that the legendary screen actor calls his first love. To help develop and produce new work for the theatre, the Douglases have recently awarded a $1 million challenge grant to Center Theatre Group to be combined with their earlier $1 million seed grant for new work, which results in a $2 million investment in the future of Los Angeles theatre.
