GOD OF CARNAGE Breaks CTG's Box Office Records!
GOD OF CARNAGE has broken every box office record ever set for a play at Center Theatre Group, it was announced today by CTG Artistic Director Michael Ritchie.
The Tony Award-winning play, featuring the original Tony Award-nominated Broadway cast - Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini and Marcia Gay Harden, grossed $7,794,941 for its eight-week run at the CTG/Ahmanson Theatre, April 5 through May 29, 2011.
There were 97,567 tickets sold for the Ahmanson production of the scathingly funny play by Yasmina Reza, with a translation by Christopher Hampton and direction by Matthew Warchus.
In addition, during its final week of performances GOD OF CARNAGE broke the record for the highest grossing week of sales ($1,149,655) for a play; and had the highest advance in ticket sales for a play at the opening date (April 13) with $4,922,538.
The previous record-holder for a play at the Ahmanson was Lily Tomlin in The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe by Jane Wagner in the Ahmanson Theatre's 2002-2003 season with gross receipts of $3,724,484.
The English-language version of GOD OF CARNAGE first opened in London's West End in March 2008 and opened on Broadway in March 2009.
GOD OF CARNAGE was produced by Robert Fox, David Pugh & Dafydd Rogers, Stuart Thompson, Scott Rudin, Jon B. Platt, The Weinstein Company and The Shubert Organization, and presented at the Ahmanson Theatre by Center Theatre Group.
