My first association with musical composer Frank Loesser was as an actor in the 70s in a revue of his music. I played Sky Masterson of Guys and Dolls and sang a duet of 'I've Never Been In Love Before'. I came to realize quite rapidly how lovely his music is and how well he manages to capture the moment of genuine emotion within a song. Upon seeing Guys and Dolls several times since, I have been awestruck as well by Abe Burrows and Joe Swerling's ability to take Damon Runyon's New York Broadway characters from the 20s and blow them up into something overwhelmingly moving and appealing. The two worlds of sin and redemption have never been connected so naturally, cleverly and colorfully nor with such style and panache. Now at GCT, the cast give their all to Loesser's Runyonesque romp and it comes up a surefire hit.

Central Florida Community Arts presents their 5th annual Summer Broadway Season production, Guys and Dolls, September 10 & 11, 2015. Based on the stories and characters of Damon Runyon, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, this concert-style production of Guys and Dolls is directed by Rob Lott, with music direction by Jacob Haines, assistant direction by Ashley Willsey, choreography by Katherine Rivera, and is produced by Joshua Vickery through CFCArts.

Rover Dramawerks is pleased to conclude their 15th Anniversary Season with the classic comedy, Cactus Flower, by Abe Burrows. Performances will be at Rover's new theatre in Plano, located in Ruisseau Village at 221 W. Parker Rd, Suite 580, at the northwest corner of Parker and 75. Performances are September 10 - October 3, 2015, with shows on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., plus an additional matinee performance on Saturday, September 19 at 2:00 p.m.

Executive producer Tim Dietlein and the Glendale Centre Theatre continue their exciting 68th season with the Broadway classic, GUYS AND DOLLS. Performances are August 28th - October 10th.

On September 26, the Long Beach Playhouse opens its 87th Mainstage Season with lower ticket prices for Friday night shows. Instead of paying $24, the Friday night single ticket price will be $20.

Now under new ownership, the Fremont Street Theater Company proudly returns with its annual summer production - this year, the Tony-Award winning How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The show opens at 7:30 p.m., tonight, August 7, at historic Cutting Hall in Palatine and will run the two weekends of August 7-9 and 14-16 for a total of eight performances.

Based upon characters and stories by Damon Runyon, and memorialized in film by the likes of Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra, Weston's production features a requisite all-star cast and an iconic score which includes some of Broadway's most memorable songs, such as 'Luck Be a Lady' and 'Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat.'

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus is proud to announce the 67th season of Gallery Players. One of the oldest and longest running theaters in central Ohio, Gallery Players continues its tradition of delivering strong performances showcasing a variety of Jewish perspectives and concerns. Today in 1976, Guys and Dolls opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 239 performances. Guys and Dolls is a musical with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It is based on 'The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown' and 'Blood Pressure', two short stories by Damon Runyon, and also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories, most notably 'Pick the Winner'. Premiering on Broadway in 1950, the original production ran for 1200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical has had several Broadway revivals as well as West End productions.

GUYS AND DOLLS hit the Broadway stage in 1950 and was soon considered 'the perfect musical comedy.' With timeless music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and a clever, seamless book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, the musical has seen success since it first opened. GUYS AND DOLLS promises heartfelt and hilarious entertainment in Bayou City Theatrics' production, which begins today, July 17, and runs through August 2 at The Kaleidoscope.

A cast of student actors from 14 Triangle-area schools will perform the Tony Award-winning musical 'Guys & Dolls' today, July 15, through July 25 for the PlayMakers Summer Youth Conservatory (SYC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. High school actors and technicians began work on the production June 15.
