Audiences will have another chance to celebrate the life of the trailblazing entertainer and activist Harry Belafonte with artists who knew him well, as the uplifting and dynamic concert "Turn the World Around: The Music and Legacy of Harry Belafonte" returns to Aaron Davis Hall on Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. Presented by City College of the Arts (CCCA), the musical tribute on the icon's 92nd birthday will feature songs from the Belafonte songbook performed by members of the Belafonte Alumni Group, a collection of artists who have performed with the star for decades. Vocalists Ty Stephens and Branice McKenzie as well as keyboardist and longtime Belafonte musical director Richard Cummings Jr. will be among the performers.
Spanish-American guitarist Oscar Peñas will bring his newest musical oeuvre Almadraba to Aaron Davis Hall for two concerts presented by City College Center for the Arts (CCCA) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, and Friday, February 8. A fascinating mix of the jazz and classical worlds, the Almadraba suite performed by the Oscar Peñas Jazz Quartet joined by the Mivos Quartet string ensemble offers a tribute to the musical milieu in which Peñas was raised and a classic Spanish fishing tradition.

Co-curators: choreographer Stefanie Nelson of Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup and bestselling author David Shenk (The Forgetting) present the launch of a new festival devoted to memory and forgetting. The inaugural event will feature Stefanie Nelson's A, MY NAME IS…, a dance piece inspired by a family experience with dementia, using several short films from David Shenk's Living With Alzheimer's Film Project. On Nov. 19, 2018, the 46th Annual Vivian Robinson AUDELCO Recognition Awards for Excellence in Black Theatre were held at Tribeca Performing Arts Center. On Kentucky Avenue, a new original musical created by Jeree Wade and written by Adam Wade and Ty Stephens, was nominated for 10 AUDELCO Awards, taking home a total of six, the highest number of wins for the evening, including for "Best Musical."
The hypnotic fusion of American jazz and Arabic tarab music arrives in Harlem as the Tarek Yamani Trio presents “Jazz Conceptions in Classical Arabic” on Friday, November 16, at Aaron Davis Hall. Presented by City College Center for the Arts (CCCA), the 7:30 p.m. concert will offer music lovers a wonderful mix of re-arranged late 19th century songs from the Arabic repertoire, jazz standards and original compositions based on Levantine rhythms by trio leader Tarek Yamani.
The power and joy of dance and the human collective will be in the spotlight as City College Center for the Arts (CCCA) presents the collaborative dance company MG DanceArts in Amass today, October 26, at 7:30 p.m. Directed by dancer, choreographer and educator Marielis Garcia, Amass presents audiences with an interactive multidisciplinary performance featuring dance, music, sculpture and a good dose of audience participation. Born out of political strife, the piece is designed to help people with vastly different experiences reconnect as human beings through dance. As spectators become the performers, notions of the individual, the group, the past and the future will be tested and explored.

This special concert - thoughtfully curated by Tower herself - will include compositions by Tower, Jennifer Higdon, Tania Leon, and Julia Wolfe, each work played by the original ensemble it was commissioned for.
The Board of Directors of the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute are excited to usher in a new chapter in the organization's evolution, with the unanimous appointment of Melody Capote as Executive Director. For over thirty of the forty-two years CCCADI has been in existence, Ms. Capote has worked alongside founder Dr. Marta Moreno Vega, first as a development associate and later as deputy director. She has been instrumental in developing CCCADI into one of the world's most vital institutions for the preservation of African Diaspora culture, positioned within a lens of social justice. Ms. Capote's experience and commitment to CCCADI makes her a uniquely qualified candidate for the position of executive director. We are thrilled to welcome her into this position.
