New York Youth Symphony Season 2018/19 Announcement

New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), is proud to continue its mission of providing an outstanding music education and performance opportunities to students between the ages of 12-22 by launching a new Musical Theater Composition program aimed at diversifying the world of musical theater. The new director and performance information is expected to be announced in summer 2018. Also new in 2018/19 the NYYS Orchestra and Chamber Music Programs will tour together for the first time ever to Spain in 2019, where they will explore cities including Madrid, Granada, and Seville.

York Symphony Orchestra Presents American Classics

The York Symphony Orchestra will present American Classics on Saturday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts in York. The performance will pay tribute to the military with a color guard and armed forces salute in honor of National Armed Forces Day and will feature music by Aaron Copland, George Gershwin and a commemoration of Leonard Bernstein's 100th Birthday. Single tickets starting at $9 for adults and $5 for students are available online at www.YorkSymphony.org or by calling 717-846-1111.

Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival 2018 Announces 35th Anniversary Season

This summer, the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, called 'the crown jewel of chamber music festivals on Long Island – arguably anywhere on the East Coast” by Newsday last year, celebrates its 35th anniversary. A pre-festival ramp-up of five free pop-up concerts around the Hamptons sets the stage, Alan Alda returns to launch the season, hosting a musical portrait of Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, and the festival features the world premieres of BCMF-commissioned works by Kenji Bunch and Paul Moravec.

Pacific Symphony Performs Peter Boyer's 'Ellis Island: The Dream of America'

THIRTEEN's Great Performances and Pacific Symphony, led by music director Carl St.Clair, pay tribute to America's history with a performance of composer Peter Boyer's “Ellis Island: The Dream of America,” a Grammy-nominated contemporary classical work celebrating the historic American immigrant experience. Great Performances – Ellis Island: The Dream of America with Pacific Symphony premieres nationwide Friday, June 29 at 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings) in honor of Immigrant Heritage Month. It will be available to stream the following day via pbs.org/gperf and PBS apps.

Musiqa, two-time winner of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, presents a free, informal loft concert, Right Here, Right Now: San Antonio at the Contemporary Arts Museum onThursday, May 17 at 6:30 PM. The evening's program, which was created to complement the exhibit of the same name, features works written or inspired by the art and artists of San Antonio.

ICE Performs The Music Of Anna Thorvaldsdottir At National Sawdust Led By Steven Schick

On Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 4:00pm, the pioneering International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) presents a program of works by composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir highlighting her unorthodox use of the piano. ICE pianist Cory Smythe, a champion and commissioner of Anna's solo music, is in the center of National Sawdust's stage, circled by the audience, with the audience encircled by ICE musicians, immersed in the music. Conductor Steven Schick, a longtime ICE collaborator, leads the ensemble. This performance is part of ICE's year long participation as a National Sawdust 2017-18 Artists-in-Residence. This project is supported by Nokia Bell Labs Experiments in Art and Technology program.

Phila. Young Artists Orchestra Performs 23rd Annual Festival Concert

On Sunday, May 13, 2018 at 3 p.m. the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO) members, ages 12 to 18, will present its 23rd Annual Festival Concert. The concert will be held in the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, 300 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia. Conducted by Maestra Rosalind Erwin, the concert will feature the winner of the Fourth Annual Young Artists Solo Competition winner, Lea Wang, violinist. Wang, who placed first in the competition out of more than a dozen applicants, will perform Pablo de Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen ("Gypsy Airs") and receive a $500 scholarship award from PYO. She resides in Holland in Bucks County, PA and is an 8th grade student at Holland Middle School.

Rite Of Summer Music Festival 2018 Season Announced

Blair McMillen and Pam Goldberg are thrilled to present the eighth season of the Rite of Summer Music Festival, taking place Summer 2018 on Governors Island, New York City. Rite of Summer will present free outdoor concerts from May through August.  In a locale The New York Times has called a "Playground for the Arts," the aim of the Festival is simple: to present the highest quality live performances, and to bring free contemporary classical music to as many people as possible in a relaxed, fun, outdoor setting.

Peak Performances presents the world premiere of Spinning, a collaborative musical work written and composed by Pulitzer Prize winner and MacArthur Fellow Julia Wolfe (Anthracite Fields, 2015), and conceived with "cello goddess" (The New Yorker) Maya Beiser, with multimedia projections by innovative artist Laurie Olinder (May 10-13). Commissioned by Peak Performances and culminating their season of works by women, Spinning considers the essential labor of spinning thread-work once performed by hand by women-paying homage to the human dignity of this "women's work."

As previously announced, the acclaimed Second Act Series, which has presented an array of lesser-known musicals in concert, will celebrate the short-lived Charles Strouse and Alan Jay Lerner musical Dance A Little Closer at New York's Green Room 42 on Monday, April 16th at 7:00pm. Three-time Tony Award-winning composer Charles Strouse will be on hand to meet fans and sign copies of his memoir, Put On A Happy Face, following the performance ($20 - cash only). Part of a lifelong celebration of composer Charles Strouse's 90th birthday, this special event gives audiences the rare opportunity to hear this enchanting score.
