When Poncho Sanchez and His Latin Jazz Band bring their show to Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in the Virginia G. Piper Theater, it will be a night full of what the Texas-born conguero calls "the world's greatest music."
New Award Created For Theaters That Complete the August Wilson Cycle

A new August Wilson American Century Cycle Award honors theater companies that have staged all ten Cycle plays. The award is the creation of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and co-sponsored by the August Wilson House - the playwright's hometown newspaper and his childhood home in Pittsburgh's Hill District. Constanza Romero Wilson and the August Wilson Estate are providing advisory support.

The Seattle Rep, fortunately for all of us, has long held a special relationship with the works of August Wilson. They're one of the few theaters in the country to have done his entire Century Cycle sometimes premiering those plays as was the case with 'Two Trains Running' which they produced back in 1991 and have brought back to us this season. And as always, Wilson's plays still resonate and the Rep, this time in conjunction with Arena Stage, continues to present them with tons of honesty and heart.

Trustus Theatre is continuing their Season 33 theme, Eyes Open, with their upcoming production of A Bright Room Called Day by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tony Kushner. At the beginning of 1932 in Germany, the political landscape has begun to shift as the Nazis win control of the parliament for the first time. How would the small, seemingly inconsequential, actions that followed change the world of Agnes Eggling and her friends? What came next was more unthinkable than they could have ever imagined. Broadway By the Bay, the Peninsula based award-winning musical theater company, announced today the four musicals that will make up their 2018 season. Launching the season in March 2018 will be the 1957 musical theater classic, The Music Man. Summer will kick off like a great ball of fire with the hit rock-n-roll musical Million Dollar Quartet, followed by the 70s disco-era hit Saturday Night Fever. The season will come to a close with Elton John and Tim Rice's Tony Award-winning adaptation of Verdi's AIDA.
