Praised by The New York Times as 'wonderful, and a welcome anomaly on Broadway,' PASSING STRANGE Mark Stewart (who wrote book, lyrics, and in collaboration with Heidi Rodewald, music), begins Theatrical Outfit's 2023/24 season running until October 22nd, 2023. A rock musical about growing up and getting wise, PASSING STRANGE looks at the artist as art and the ways that our explorations through personal discovery has rippling effects.

Ambiguity abounds and reality is mixed with fantasy. The reality side is clear, mostly. Harold is a middle-aged watch repairman who lives alone. Although repairs pay the rent, they've been neglected because he can't stop thinking about the plot of a book he's been writing in which an aging magician worries his marvelous tricks won't outlive him. As he seeks a capable heir for his book of secrets, he collapses and is rushed to a hospital.

National Sawdust brings the celebration home to its intimate performance space with a Gala Series celebrating the National Sawdust belief that artistic and musical expression helps us all create a more joyful and just world. The National Sawdust Gala Series raises needed financial support specifically designated for its professional development and mentorship work including its Artist-In-Residence program and the Hildegard Competition, our mentorship initiative highlighting outstanding female and nonbinary composers in the early stages of their careers.

On Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 7:30pm, the Bang on a Can All-Stars will perform Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, MacArthur Fellow, and Bang on a Can co-founder and co-artistic director Julia Wolfe’s acclaimed oratorio Steel Hammer at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall.

On Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 7:30pm, Bang on a Can presents the 2022 Bang on a Can People's Commissioning Fund concert, one of the most anticipated and reliable launching pads for composers in New York and beyond.
