This March, Main Street Theater (MST) will be out in the community to help encourage a love of reading as part of the NEA's Read Across America initiative. READ (Read Across America Day), as it is affectionately known, is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. Main Street Theater is volunteering its services, sending their own Cat in the Hat to 3 schools across the Greater Houston Area to read "his" book and interact with the students on March 1 (since March 2 itself is a Saturday). Main Street Theater (MST) presents The Wizard of Oz based on the book by L. Frank Baum, playing on Saturdays through July 29 at 11am and 2pm and on Sundays July 16 - 30, 2017.  This is a rare opportunity to see the musical based on the book rather than the movie.  Audiences will be treated to more of the Wicked Witch of the West and Oz himself, among other special numbers.  All of MST's Theater for Youth productions are based on children's literature.

I get the idea behind WINIFRED. I really do. Winifred 'Winnie' Wagner is punished by history for being a woman with a (rumored) sexual history. I understand it, and I still didn't enjoy it or agree with its driving point.
