The Theatre Centre welcomed audiences, artists and neighbours to the venue for a community meal celebrating its 22/23 programming year. In addition to announcing works on offer throughout the year — Rimah Jabr's Broken Shapes, Sea Sick by Alanna Mitchell, the third edition of Comedy is Art, and Ian Kamau's Loss — artist-podcaster Falen Johnson and artist Lorena Torres Loaiza were presented with the 2022 Patrick Conner Award and Ticket respectively. 

The Theatre Centre is back with a new look and an exciting year of hybrid programming. The theatre will open its doors to the public for the first time since March 2020 for Comedy is Art—part live comedy festival, part digital production—from October 26 to October 30, 2021.

This year, The Theatre Centre is embarking on what may be the most ambitious year of creation in its history. They will be supporting an unprecedented 16 projects led by 20 artists; creating two new development streams and more.

'This Is Why We Live' by Open Heart Surgery Theatre, a Lecoq-bred performance troupe from Toronto, brings the poetry of Polish Nobel Laureate Wislawa Szymborska to the stage using movement, poetry-theatre and live music. La MaMa will present the US premiere of this work, running September 19 to 29 in its Downstairs Theatre, 66 East 4th Street.

Theatre Junction and the International Festival of Animated Objects present Old Trout Puppet Workshop's Famous Puppet Death Scenes. If you've never seen this unique show, you're in for a treat. If you have, you'll enjoy it all over again, along with highly-anticipated new scenes. Playing from March 13-28, the run includes four matinees; bring the whole extended family aged 14 to 114! Contains mature themes, puppet nudity and some swearing.

The Canadian puppet workshop brings their dark comedy 'Famous Puppet Death Scenes,' to Woolly Mammoth Theater Company. It is a show that will make you gasp and laugh awkwardly.

Three emerging theatre companies have come together to present "3 Shows", three separate new works of physical theatre, each about an hour long, playing in rotation at The Theatre Centre until May 18th Business as Usual depicts a "corporate Twilight Zone" of big business insiders trying to carry on in a "post-crash world". The bouffon-inspired satire Death Married My Daughter (Best of Fringe 2013) brings Shakespeare's Ophelia and Desdemona back from death to take on the patriarchy. In Ralph + Lina, Christina Serra and her co-star tell the charming true romance of her Italian grandparents.

The Independent Creators Cooperative is a new theatre collaboration that brings together three emerging companies supported by two veteran companies in order to present the world premieres of three physical theatre productions to open The Theatre Centre's BMO Incubator space at its new permanent home at the historic Carnegie Library. These original plays will run in repertory Thursday-Sunday from April 17 to May 18 with previews from April 12-16.
