TheatreWorks Silicon Valley's Fannie: The Music and Life of Fannie Lou Hamer will run through April 2, 2023 at Lucie Stern Theatre. Greta Oglesby, who starred in last season’s critically acclaimed Gem of the Ocean, reunites with TheatreWorks Artistic Director Tim Bond, who will direct this stirring musical play about the famed civil rights activist. Daryl Dragon of Captain and Tennille Passes Away
Daryl Dragon was a brilliant keyboardist, arranger and record producer, known to his many fans worldwide as 'The Captain' half of the pop music duo, Captain and Tennille. Daryl passed away on Wednesday, Jan 2nd at 1:37am due to renal failure at the age of 76.
Marc Masterson Named Artistic Director Of City Theatre
Under the leadership of Board President Beth Newbold and Managing Director James McNeel, the City Theatre Board of Directors has concluded an extensive national search, naming Marc Masterson the new Artistic Director of the region's largest theater dedicated solely to new plays. Masterson brings decades of experience and an award-winning national presence as a champion of new works, having served as the artistic director of South Coast Repertory Theatre (2011-2018) and Actors Theatre of Louisville, home of the internationally acclaimed Humana Festival of New American Plays (2000-2011), two of the most distinguished arts institutions in the nation. He was City Theatre's producing artistic director from 1981-2000.
City Theatre Closes 2017-18 Season with NOMAD MOTEL
City Theatre is thrilled to announce the details of the final production of the 2017-18 season: Nomad Motel by Carla Ching. Originally commissioned as part of South Coast Repertory Theatre's CrossRoads initiative (Marc Masterson, Artistic Director) the play explores a family consumed by California's crippling housing crisis and the life of a "parachute kid," sent to live alone in America while his father remains in Hong Kong. It is directed by LA-based artist Bart DeLorenzo, and will run on the City Theatre Main Stage, May 12-June 3, 2018. Tickets are on sale now.
THE GRADUATE Returns to NYC with New Queen's Theatre Production with Adair, Arkin & More
Queens Theatre (QT) presents the L.A. Theatre Works production of THE GRADUATE, based on the 1963 'age of youth' novel and the classic 1967 Oscar-winning film, adapted for the stage by Terry Johnson. The play is directed by Brian Kite, and features a dynamite cast of stars of film and TV: Diane Adair (South Coast Repertory Theatre) as Mrs. Braddock, Matthew Arkin (Bdwy: Losing Louie, The Sunshine Boys; TV: 'Rescue Me', '100 Centre Street', 'All My Children') as Mr. Robinson, Heidi Dippold (TV: 'The Sopranos', 'All My Children') as Mrs. Robinson, Jill Renner (Pacific Resident Theatre) as Elaine Robinson, Darren Richardson (Nat' Tour: Pride and Prejudice TV: 'Lost', 'Fastlane') as Hotel Clerk/Priest/Psychiatrist, Brian Tichnell (TV: 'Happy Endings') as Benjamin Braddock and Tom Virtue (TV: 'The Building, The Bonnie Hunt Show') as Mr. Braddock.
New Exhibit Traces the History of South Coast Repertory Theatre
A new exhibition traces the history of South Coast Repertory, Orange County's Tony Award-winning theatre. The display is on view Oct. 12-20 at South Coast Plaza, during the mall's regular business hours. The display, in the Jewel Court rotunda (by Macy's), includes cut-out characters in costumes from past productions and large color panels that tell the story of SCR through photos and text.
