Trieschmann's Comedy 'crooked' Begins 4/11 with Milioti & Herlihy

By:

Catherine Trieschmann's comedy crooked will arrive Off-Broadway at the Woman's Project (424 West 55th Street), beginning previews Friday, April 11 at 8PM; opening Sunday April 20 at 7PM.

crooked was first staged at NYC's Summer Play Festival in 2005 before opening to acclaim at London's Bush Theatre in 2006.  Now, in a new production directed by Liz Diamond, Trieschmann's tale of a 14-year-old's warped and wry storytelling that forces the people around her to grapple with matters of faith, fantasy, and flesh arrives in New York.

Cristin Milioti, recently seen on Broadway in Coram Boy and The Lieutenant of Inishmore, is the 14-year-old Laney, an aspiring writer with an imagination as off-kilter as her awkward adolescence. Carmen M. Herlihy plays her earnest, but hapless born-again friend Maribel and Betsy Aidem plays Laney's mother.  Both experience Laney's penchant for storytelling at it spirals out of control.

Trieschmann's plays include The Bridegroom of Blowing Rock (recipient of the L. Arnold Weissberger Award), Before the Fire, The World of Others, and Hot Georgia Sunday.  Her work has been produced and/or developed at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Atlanta's Theatre in the Square, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, LARK, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and LAByrinth, among others. Originally from Athens, Georgia, she received her M.F.A. from the University of Georgia but currently resides in a small town in western Kansas, where she's working on a commission for South Coast Repertory Theatre and a screenplay adaptation of the novel Angel's Crest for Process Media.

The all female design team is a first for Women's Project.  Sets are by Jennifer Moeller, costumes are by Ilona Somogyi, lighting is by S. Ryan Schmidt  and original music is being created by crooked's sound designer, Jane Shaw.

Tickets for crooked are available online at www.womensproject.org/tickets.htm or call Telecharge at 212-239-6200.
