Michael played Sir Anthony Eden in the original production of The Audience at London’s Gielgud Theatre. He has since appeared as Leonato in Much Ado About Nothing at London’s Old Vic with James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave, directed by Mark Rylance; and as Wyn Griffith in National Theatre Wales’ acclaimed production of Mametz, set on the Somme in 1916.
Other theatre includes Rope (Almeida), The Long Road (Soho Theatre), Three Sisters, Cymbeline (Royal Exchange, Manchester), The Solid Gold Cadillac (Garrick Theatre), Revelations (Hampstead Theatre), Broken Glass (West Yorkshire Playhouse), Darwin in Malibu (Birmingham Rep.). A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Troilus & Cressida, All’s Well That Ends Well (Regent’s Park Open Air); The Seagull, A Penny For A Song (Richmond’s Orange Tree).

Further casting is announced today for Festival 2018 at Chichester Festival Theatre. Clive Rowe joins Matt Lucas, Caroline Quentin and Alex Young to lead the cast of the musical ME AND MY GIRL, which Daniel Evans directs at the Festival Theatre from 2 July - 25 August. Clive will play Sir John Tremayne, returning to Chichester following his appearance in Kiss Me Kate in 2012 which later transferred to The Old Vic.

New casting announced for the new National Theatre season. Full cast has been announced for Brian Friel's Translations including Colin Morgan and Ciaran Hinds, part of the Travelex season with thousands of tickets available at £15. Eric Kofi Abrefa and Thalissa Teixeira join Vanessa Kirby in the cast of Julie, part of the Travelex season with thousands of tickets available at £15. Sam Mendes directs The Lehman Trilogy, a co-production with Neal Street Productions, cast includes Adam Godley, Ben Miles and Simon Russell Beale. Full casting is announced for the award winning An Octoroon by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, transferring to the National Theatre in a co-production with the Orange Tree Theatre. The NT will tour to 30 venues in 27 towns and cities across the UK and Ireland, for a total of 83 playing weeks over the next year. Rufus Norris' Macbeth to tour to 18 venues across the UK and Ireland from autumn 2018. War Horse returns to the National Theatre marking the centenary of Armistice Day.
