Marilyn McCormick Biography
McCormick is the drama instructor within the Performing Arts curriculum at Cass Technical High School. She teaches courses such as Children's Theatre - an introductory theatre course geared toward teaching the basics of theatre etiquette and technique. Students in this class perform two plays per year for invited middle and elementary school guests. Readers Theatre - a more experienced ensemble of young artists who have decided to pursue theatre/acting as a profession - perform two productions per year for invited high school peers. They travel around the city and the country performing original plays. The students are introduced to Meisner, Stanislavski and some Alexander Technique. Part of the course work is applying for colleges as well as preparing and rehearsing audition materials. McCormick travels with students to either Unified College Auditions or directly to the college campuses to help guide and support her students in their efforts. McCormick directs one play and one musical each year. In addition, she supervises the Performing Arts Guild, which is a troop of comic actors who perform comedy sketch/variety shows to raise money for the Performing Arts department, which is all self-funded.Marilyn McCormick News

Theatre and Dance at Wayne is presenting the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal from January 27th through February 12th at the Hilberry Theatre. The raw, rock-infused show has music by Tom Kitt with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and it follows Diana Goodman, a suburban mother grappling with worsening bipolar disorder. The show features two separate casts for this vocally challenging production, in which Diana will be played on alternative performance dates by both Devri Chism and Tiffany Michelle Thompson.

The Matrix Theatre Company opens its 2016-2017 season with Sizwi Bansi is Dead by Athol Fugard on September 23rd in Detroit. It is a powerful play that weaves the story of a man living under apartheid rule in South Africa whose only hope for financially supporting his family means he must relinquish his very name. Director Oliver Pookrum explains the play as 'it's an important life affirming experience about the power of perseverance, belief, and having a positive attitude about your future.'
