Liverpool Theatre Festival returns in less than two weeks – and one highlight of the 11-day programme is Sober Companion, a specially commissioned new play co-written and co-starring Liverpool-born actor Joe McGann and Jake Norton. 

The final four shows have been announced for this year's 11-day Liverpool Theatre Festival which takes place next month with a brand new Summer date.

The next phase of shows for the fourth annual Liverpool Theatre Festival have been announced and include a tribute to music powerhouse Gladys Knight, a comedy murder mystery, and a William Shakespeare play for children. 

Organisers of Liverpool Theatre Festival have revealed plans for this year's headline and fringe events – with the first six shows going on sale. 

In a deserted part of the American south-west, Alex (Joe McGann) is being tended to by his loving fourth wife Lia (Clara Indrani). Once a successful artist, he was rendered speechless and motionless by a stroke. His only son Sean (Jack Wilkinson) and his second spouse Toinette (Josie Lawrence) arrive to convince his new wife to agree to terminate his life.

Josie Lawrence and Joe McGann lead the cast in the first UK production of American literary icon Don DeLillo's Love-Lies-Bleeding. The Print Room rounds off a year of bold and innovative theatre, dance, poetry and film with this perceptive and surprisingly witty story about a family trying to take death into their own hands.

Liverpool's newest theatrical space The Hope Street Theatre will officially open its doors on Sunday 23 September, 2018 at 5pm at an Invitation only gala event. The launch will include talks from Liverpool celebrity Joe McGann alongside Blood Brothers actor, director and producer Daniel Taylor. Nick Rogers and Sam Donovan, The Hope Street Theatre's Chief Executive and Artistic Director will also talk about their vision for the space. The launch event will also see a number of live performances including Adam McCoy and the Performers Choir, Rare Choir, Grace Galloway and musical excerpts performed by the casts of Aladdin and Long Joan Silver. This will then be followed by an opening night party at the newly renamed Hope Street Theatre Cocktail Bar (Formally the Masonic Bar)

This personal musical inspired by Sting's own childhood experiences, shows the collective defiance of a community facing the demise of the shipbuilding industry alongside a poignant and moving romantic tale of childhood sweethearts and the adults they grew up to become.

A unique one-off outdoor performance of The Last Ship, that will include its creator Sting who will be performing live alongside the cast, is to be held in Newcastle later this month, alongside the very river that helped inspire and shape the show.
