Musical theater and Broadway have been changed by some specific shows. Included are 'Oklahoma!,' the first book musical, 'Hair,' and its strong political/anti-war presence, 'Chorus Line,' with its emphasis on dance, and 'Rent' and its millennium theme. Another show, which tends not to be as commonly known, is 'Shuffle Along.'
Some artists are afforded the chance to tell their personal stories as they see fit, at a particular moment when they know the time has come. But for many, there is no choice —the story emerges hardwired to the music and they become forever identified with it no matter how their story may evolve or change.

Croce has been inextricably linked to a version of his own story by virtue of his name. He's experienced a lifetime of comparisons to a father he lost at age two, whose music bares little resemblance to his own output yet still serves as a reference point despite the years that have passed and the many iconic mentors who have stepped in to offer their counsel, creativity, and endorsement throughout his long career.

Bill Rudman, Artistic Director of the Musical Theater Project who hosts the radio show 'Footlight Parade' and often co-hosts the MTP live performances, has had an interest in musical theater since he was five and his parents let him stay up late to watch Mary Martin in Peter Pan on television. As Rudman said in a recent interview, 'That did it!'
Back by popular demand after last season's sold out performances at Playhouse Square, The Musical Theater Project and Cleveland Jazz Orchestra will co-produce "Curtain Up at The Cotton Club - An Encore Presentation" for two performances: Today, October 15 (3pm) at Lakeland Community College (Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center) and Sunday, October 16 (2pm) at Lorain County Community College Stocker Arts Center, (Hoke Theater).
This show is the standard by which all other musicals are measured. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, with book, music and lyrics by Lerner and Loewe, My Fair Lady is gloriously triumphant. The tale of a cockney flower girl transformed into an elegant lady features one of musical theatre's greatest scores. Songs include "Wouldn't It Be Loverly?," "With a Little Bit of Luck," "The Rain in Spain," "I Could Have Danced All Night," "On the Street Where You Live," "Get Me to the Church on Time," and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face." The production is directed by Steve Dawson and Music Directed by Paul Smith. Featuring set design by Caleb Carrier, lighting design by Michael Pasquini, with costume design by Becky Evans and stage management by Tiffany Smith.
