Oversoul Theatre Collective Relaunches Griot’s Corner Workshop in New Bedford

Oversoul Theatre Collective, Inc. is reintroducing a community-driven performance workshop in New Bedford, MA, aimed at fostering Black and Brown narratives through theater. The workshop, in collaboration with 3rd Eye Unlimited, began on February 10 and continues to accept new members. This initiative builds on the historic legacy of the New African Company, New England's oldest professional Black theater company.
Artistic Director Mary C. Huntington to be Honored with 2013 StageSource Theater Hero Award

The StageSource Board of Directors has named Nora Theatre Company founding Artistic Director, Mimi Huntington as the recipient of the 2013 StageSource Theater Hero Award. The Theater Hero Award is being presented to Ms. Huntington for her service, inspiration and role as a champion of the theater community and will be awarded on Saturday, June 29th at the conclusion of the 2013 StageSource Theater Conference.
Professor Mwalim DaPhunkee Recognized by Boston City Council

Musician/ Playwright/ Spoken-word artist and UMass Dartmouth Professor, Mwalim (Morgan James Peters) 'DaPhunkeeProfessor' was surprised and honored with a proclamation from the Boston City Council. During Mwalim's May 3rd presentation of 'You're An NDN??' at the Dudley Branch Library, Ken Yarbough, special assistant to Charles Yancey made the presentation in front of an audience of about 30 - 40 people. Cited for his '27 years as a performing artist, writer, digital media artist, educator and mentor throughout the Boston area...' Mwalim was particularly recognized for his 'Academic On The Block' initiative that brings presentations in the arts and humanities to community spaces, libraries and schools throughout eastern Massachusetts, including Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan.
