North Shore Music Theatre to Be Auctioned, 10/1


As previously reported, the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly Massachusettes is yet another casualty of the economic downturn. In December, the 54-year old theater announced that without immediate philanthropic support, they would be forced to shut down. Now, 10 months later, the theater will be auctioned next Thursday, 10/1.

The Salem News reports that the property and assets of the North Shore Music Theatre will be auctioned off to the highest bidder at an upcoming foreclosure auction, according to the theater's former chairman.

North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) officials announced today that the financially distressed theater has failed to raise $2 million in philanthropic commitments to fund a new business model and launch a 2009 season. Although more than $500,000 in pledges have been made since the theater announced a turn-around strategy in mid April, officials of the theater say that time has run out to raise the balance and move forward with its plans.

The NSMT Spotlight Awards program is designed to honor the accomplishments of high school students and teachers as well as encourage them to achieve the highest levels of excellence in musical theater. This year's program included 22 high schools and over 1,000 students vying for 15 awards, including the prestigious award for Best Overall Musical, and a chance to participate in the first National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City.

North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) announces the nominees for the 4th annual NSMT Spotlight Awards. The Tony® Award style program is designed to honor the accomplishments of high school students and teachers as well as encourage them to achieve the highest levels of excellence in musical theater. This year's program involves 22 high schools and over 1,000 students, and will culminate in an awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 7:30pm on the NSMT main stage. North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) has raised $137,682 as of Monday, January 5, in its 'Save Our Theatre' appeal launched last Monday, December 29th. More than $62,000 has been raised in donations, $14,300 has been raised in post-performance collections, and more than $61,000 has been raised in additional ticket sales to Disney High School Musical 2.

NSMT Presents 3 Shows W/ HSM Cast For Save Our Theater


To raise funds for its 'Save Our Theatre' appeal, North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) will present three special cabaret performances this week featuring the cast of Disney High School Musical 2, the NSMT Orchestra and NSMT Academy of Music Theatre students. The cabaret performances are open to theatergoers and the general public, and suggested donations of $20 will be accepted at the door. Last week, the theatre announced that it must raise $500,000 by end of January and another $4 million by April to proceed with producing its 2009 Season and theatre education programs. Fifty-seven staff members will be laid off on January 11th.
