Kitka Women's Vocal Ensemble has announced the world premiere of BABA: The Life and Death of Stana, authored, composed and directed by Karmina Šilec. BABA is a new opera inspired by the lives of sworn virgins of the Balkan Highlands, women who live as men after taking vows of celibacy.

Aurora Theatre Company Announces New Originate + Generate Commission


Aurora Theatre Company has announced the company’s newest Originate + Generate (O+G) commission, Bay Area playwright Cleavon Smith (The Flats). Smith has been commissioned to create a new play specifically for Aurora. The working title of the piece is MORE OFTEN THAN NOT.

Fringe Festivals all around the world have been an essential proving ground for thousands of independent performers from a wide array of disciplines, since the very first Edinburgh Fringe in 1947. Many distinguished former participants of the San Francisco Fringe Festival have built theatre careers from Fringe foundations, including Mark Jackson, Beth Wilmurt, Cutting Ball Theater Company, Thrillpeddlers, Boxcar Theatre, The Kilbanes, and internationally-acclaimed Banana Bag & Bodice. From September 5-14, 2019, we'll be welcoming 21 local and national performing companies to our Tenderloin Theatreplex to perform their work at our 28th annual San Francisco Fringe Festival. Full schedule of showtimes will be released on www.sffringe.org by July, 2019.

Aurora Theatre Company Announces Christopher Chen Commission


Aurora Theatre Company announces the company's newest Originate + Generate (O+G) artist commission, Christopher Chen. Chen has been commissioned for the company's 25th anniversary season to create a new play specifically for the Aurora stage; the working title for the new piece is Secretary of State. As with current O+G artists Jonathan Spector(The State of Nature) and Beth Wilmurt (Cabaret Olga), Chen will have the opportunity to create new work via a process of his own devising and will receive financial support in the form of a $5000 grant. During the O+G creation process, audiences will be invited to attend various workshops and presentations as well as a series of pop-up readings by other theater makers.

ODC to Present 9th Home Season of Hope Mohr Dance, 6/9-11


ODC Theater will present the ninth home season of Hope Mohr Dance, a company esteemed for its 'rigorous conceptual approach to fundamental questions about the body in space and time' (Dance View Times). A company-in-residence at ODC, Hope Mohr Dance will perform a double bill featuring the world premiere of Manifesting, a dance theater work inspired by art manifestos, and the revival of Stay, Mohr's choreographic response to paintings of Francis Bacon. Hope Mohr Dance's ninth home season runs June 9 - 11, Thursday to Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 - $45, and may be purchased online at odcdance.org/tickets.

Aurora Theatre Company to Present ORIGINATE + GENERATE


Berkeley's Aurora Theatre Company announces the company's new works initiative to promote the creation of forward-looking theater, Originate + Generate. After a successful 10-year run, the Global Age Project festival of new works has evolved and shifted focus from discovery to development, including commissions, workshops, readings, and full productions of new plays. Every year, theater artists will be selected and given the opportunity to create new work via processes of their own devising. They will receive the financial support, resources, and physical space to create works specifically for Aurora's stages. Special consideration will be given to local theater artists. Aurora Theatre Company is pleased to announce that the first O+G two artists are Jonathan Spector with The State of Nature and Beth Wilmurt with Cabaret Olga. During the creation process, audiences will be invited to attend various workshops and presentations as the works are being created as well as a series of pop-up readings by other theater makers.

Aurora Theatre Company to Stage World Premiere of LITTLE ERIK


Aurora Theatre Company continues its 24th season with the World Premiere of LITTLE ERIK. Written and directed by award-winning Bay Area auteur Mark Jackson (The Letters, The Arsonists, Salomania), LITTLE ERIK features Marilee Talkington, Joe Estlack, Wilma Bonet, Greg Ayers, Mariah Castle, and Jack Wittmayer. Cabaret Comico, San Francisco's Version of Italy's Comic Cabaret Festival to Return in November


The San Francisco Italian Athletic Club in the heart of North Beach will host the main event of Cabaret Comico 2015 on Friday, November 13 with original songs and Broadway comedy tunes performed by 16 of the Bay Area's funniest singers and songwriters. And for the first time since its 2013 inaugural event, Cabaret Comico welcomes visitors from the Shaman to Showman festival.
