The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Has Announced $51.3 Million in Grants to Support Public Cultural Programming


The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs has announced $51.3 million in grants to support public cultural programming at 985 organizations across New York City as part of its fiscal year 2020 annual funding cycle. The funds support groups working in a vast range of disciplines, serving audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Together, the hundreds of cultural organizations receiving this support form the backbone of New York City's vibrant cultural life. The total includes funding set aside for underserved communities and major new investments in nonprofits that directly support individual artists working throughout the city. The agency continues to prioritize funding equity for culture in every corner of NYC and support for goals outlined in the CreateNYC cultural plan.

NYC Department Of Cultural Affairs Launches “Community Organizing 101: Engagement Tactics For Cultural Organizations”


The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) today announced the launch of Community Organizing 101: Engagement Tactics for Cultural Organizations, a pilot course that will train staff from cultural organizations around the city in strategies for sustained community building. During public engagement conducted for CreateNYC, residents and cultural workers called for the City to support cultural groups in efforts to establish stronger connections with their neighbors and engage new audiences. Representatives from 30 DCLA-funded organizations from all five boroughs will participate in this free pilot course, providing them an opportunity to establish new peer networks and learn how to integrate the tools of community organizing into their work in the cultural sector.

City Announces Grants Totaling $43.9 Million For Cultural Programming


Cultural Affairs Commissioner Tom Finkelpearl and City Council Member and Cultural Affairs Committee Chair Jimmy Van Bramer today joined cultural stakeholders from across the city to announce $43.9 million in grants to support public programming at 977 cultural organizations across all five boroughs. This includes major support for priorities in the City's CreateNYC cultural plan, providing greater funding equity for culture in every corner of the city.

The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) has announced that author and co-director of the Acquavella Gallery Michael Findlay, composer Elliot Goldenthal, filmmaker Mira Nair and visual artist Fred Wilson were inducted into the NYFA Hall of Fame on Tuesday, April 23rd at Espace (635 West 42nd Street). The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) has announced that author and co-director of the Acquavella Gallery Michael Findlay, composer Elliot Goldenthal, filmmaker Mira Nair and visual artist Fred Wilson will be inducted into the NYFA Hall of Fame on Tuesday, April 23rd at Espace (635 West 42nd Street). The evening begins at 6:30 with a cocktail reception featuring interactive art by past and current NYFA grantees, followed by dinner and remarks from all the honorees. Tickets start at $500 and tables at $5,000; tickets for the Young Patrons After party, which begins at 9:30, are $250. Tickets and tables at all levels can be purchased at www.nyfa.org.

Dance/NYC and Dance/USA Create Local-National Partnerships at 2013 Symposium


Today, at Dance/NYC's Symposium, the annual gathering of the dance field in the metropolitan area, Dance/NYC and Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance, jointly discuss Dance/NYC's evolution from a branch of Dance/USA to a New York State-registered not-for-profit corporation.
