BWW Review: It's Austen Time - SENSE AND SENSIBILITY / I LOVE YOU BECAUSE

This past week I saw two different musicals that have taken their inspiration from classic Jane Austen novels and, while completely different in size and scale, both have considerable merits. The first is in San Diego where Paul Gordon's to-die-for new musical SENSE AND SENSIBILITY is gracing the stage at The Old Globe.

BWW Review: DEAD PILOTS SOCIETY Offers Look at TV Pilots That Never Aired

Every year, Hollywood studios spend millions upon millions of dollars on TV pilots, the test shows that networks order before deciding which shows should become full-fledged series or wind up being locked away in a vault never to be seen again. For every pilot that eventually airs, there are three that never will see daylight, even though there are thousands of hopeful writers, directors and actors in our town that work around-the-clock during pilot season, hoping their work will be picked up and make them a lot of money as a hit TV series.
Video: EMMA HUNTON and THE UNAUTHORIZED MUSICAL PARODY OF CLUELESS

Guest stars included Glee's Lindsay Pearce and Dear John Hughes' Michael Thomas Grant. Grant is currently performing alongside Hunton in 'The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Clueless,' playing now through October 2nd at Rockwell Table and Stage. Hunton honored her Broadway roots with a performance of Spring Awakening's 'Touch Me.'
BWW Reviews: The Ladies Rule in Cabrillo Music Theatre's COMPANY

A noticeably long, drawn-out silence opens Cabrillo Music Theatre's production of COMPANY as 35-year old Robert (Alxander Jon) comes home to his empty New York bachelor pad. It is the final moment of solitude before the coordinated cacophony of voices begins in Nick DeGruccio's sleekly directed revival of Stephen Sondheim (music & lyrics) and George Furth's (book) 1970 classic.
Cabrillo Music Theatre to Stage Stephen Sondheim's COMPANY in 2015

Cabrillo Music Theatre takes audiences to the island of Manhattan for the Civic Arts Plaza Professional Premiere of COMPANY. The first-ever "concept" musical is by turns funny, pointed and hopeful. Stephen Sondheim's score is packed with some of his best-known tunes. And the honest and witty look at love and relationships is as contemporary as ever. Plus, the intimacy of the Scherr Forum provides the perfect locale, bringing the audience into the action, and creating a theatre experience that unique… and uniquely Cabrillo. Cabrillo Music Theatre's brand-new production of COMPANY opens on Friday, January 23rd, 2015, playing until Sunday, February 8th, at the 396-seat Scherr Forum at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, located at 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks.
