Mad Cow Theatre is happy to announce its coming production of another Federico Garcia Lorca Spanish-language classic, The Love of Don Perlimplin and Belisa in the Garden, to be presented Jan. 10-14, 2018 in the Zehngebot-Stonerock Theatre.
A satirical mix of erotic desire, romance, tragedy, and magic, The Love of Don Perlimplin and Belisa in the Garden will be directed by Teatro Español director Eliana Stratico.
The show is a continuation of the Teatro Español project, which Mad Cow Theatre began in 2014 in order to provide Spanish-speaking audiences with professional productions of classic Spanish-language theatre. The project also includes free actor-training workshops for beginning and experienced bilingual actors.
Teatro Español exists "not only to rescue the classics of Hispanic literature, but to present them in the original language," Stratico says.
A graduate of the acting program at the Instituto Universitario Nacional del Arte of Argentina, Stratico received a master's degree in education from Northeastern University. She has worked an actress, director, playwright and acting teacher in Buenos Aires, Boston, and Orlando. For Mad Cow she has directed readings of Lorca's rural trilogy - Blood Wedding, The House of Bernarda Alba, and Yerma - and a full production of No Suicide in Springtime by the poet and playwright Alejandro Casona.
Teatro Español features artists from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, and other Spanish-speaking countries.
The cast features Anahilda García (La Casa de Bernarda Alba, Yerma, Prohibido Suicidarse en Primavera), Guillermo Suárez (Prohibido Suicidarse en Primavera), Thamara Bejarano (Prohibido Suicidarse en Primavera), & Susi Rivera (La Casa de Bernarda Alba, Yerma, Prohibido Suicidarse en Primavera), along with Karina Gentile, Claudia Caicedo, and Armando Urdaneta in their Teatro Español debut. (Previous work with Mad Cow in parentheses.)
Mad Cow presented an English-language production of The Love of Don Perlimplin and Belisa in the Garden in 2004.
The Love of Don Perlimplin and Belisa in the Garden runs Jan. 10 -14, 2018 in the Zehngebot-Stonerock Theatre at Mad Cow Theatre, 54 W. Church Street (second floor) in downtown Orlando. (Click here for directions.)
Opening night is Thursday Jan. 11 at 8:00 p.m. The opening-night performance will be followed by Mad Cow's traditional champagne reception in the lobby.
