Mad Cow Theatre Announces FUN HOME

Mad Cow Theatre is thrilled to announce that the musical in its summer 2018 "to be announced" slot is Fun Home, the blockbuster that won the Best Musical Tony Award in 2015 and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

Based on the popular graphic novel by Alison Bechdel, Fun Home tells the semi-autobiographical story of a girl named Alison who discovers her own sexuality while growing up in a small-town funeral home - hence the title - where her father, the local undertaker, has unanswerable secrets of his own.

"We are thrilled to be the first professional production of Fun Home in Central Florida," said Mitzi Maxwell, Mad Cow's Executive Director. "Fun Homedelicately weaves together a family's story into a heart-wrenching, innovative and charmingly honest musical sure to relate to every person in our audience. It speaks universally about big things that matter: life, love, family and surviving. This show has also made history along the way as the first show written by solely women to win theater's highest award. "

The New York Times' Ben Brantley called Fun Home "extraordinary and heart-gripping," while Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune described the show as "exquisite" and "an emotional powerhouse."

Mad Cow's production will play June 1-July 1, 2018, in the Harriett Theatre. Mark Edward Smith will direct.

Fun Home's music was written by Jeanine Tesori (Caroline, or Change; Violet; Shrek the Musical), and its book and lyrics by Lisa Kron. Its Broadway production won five Tonys, including awards for Tesori, Kron, original director Sam Gold and lead actor Michael Cerveris.
