Brevard Symphony Kicks Off Season with Bernstein At 100
The Brevard Symphony Orchestra begins the 2018-2019 season, the Orchestra's 65th Anniversary, with a program celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Leonard Bernstein's birth. Under the baton of Music Director and Principal Conductor Christopher Confessore, the concert will feature an all-Bernstein concert focused on the great composer's theatrical works, with excerpts from Candide, On the Town, West Side Story, Mass, and Fancy Free.
"This will be a spectacular way to open our season, and a fitting tribute to a great American musician," states Maestro Confessore.
One of Bernstein's former Personal Assistants and Librarians, Charlie Harmon, will join the BSO as a special guest for the concert, offering anecdotes about his time working for Bernstein and his experiences watching Bernstein prepare and perform many of the works on our program. Mr. Harmon has created a special arrangement for solo violin and orchestra of themes from On the Town. The BSO will give the world premiere of the On the Town Rhapsody for Violin and Orchestra with acclaimed violinist Jennifer Frautschi as soloist. The Orchestra will also feature two guest vocalists, Jackie Stressman and E.J. Cardona, for West Side Story Suite.
Performance begins at 8:00pm at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne.
Patrons are also invited to join Maestro Confessore in the main lobby before the performance for Concert Conversations with Christopher Confessore. This fun, insightful, interactive chat begins approximately 40 minutes before the performance.
