OmniArts Nebraska presents:

AN ILIAD

By Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare

based on Homer’s The Iliad, translated by Robert Fagles

Directed by Laura Lippman

PRODUCTION TO RUN June 19, 20, 22 at 7:30pm, June 23 at 2:00pm, at the Johnny Carson Theater at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

OmniArts Nebraska proudly presents the final main stage production of its 12th season, AN ILIAD, by Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare. This modern-day retelling of Homer’s classic epic relates an age-old story that still resonates with powerful relevance today. Whether someone is familiar with the old tales, or simply relates on a human level to themes of heroism and violence; of a world at war and the human cost—this intimate story is one worth sharing with students, military veterans, and theatre patrons alike.

Told with poetry and humor, the ancient tale of the Trojan War and the modern world collide in this captivating theatrical experience. The lone figure onstage is the Poet, a storyteller, played by OmniArts Managing Artistic Director, Dustin Witte. He tells of ruined civilizations and how blind rage can overwhelm people whether they are on the battlefield or in line at the supermarket. He is fated to tell this story throughout history, but not without hope that the story may someday change.

AN ILIAD also features a character known as The Muse, played by cellist and vocalist, Joye VanTrimmell, whose music accompanies and inspires the Poet’s text.

The production is directed by Laura Lippman, Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at Peru State College, with Josh Girard as stage manager.

Tickets are available through the Lied Center for Performing Arts Ticket Office, (402) 472-4747, or online at www.liedcenter.org.
