In today's society, being a girl isn't always easy and finding a voice seems like a daunting task. Broken Mirror is a "play by and about its cast" and examines the issues that girls face today, such as relationships, body image, family life, and social acceptance. This tenth annual production of The Rose's Teens 'N' Theater program runs March 11-14 on the Hitchcock stage at The Rose Theater, 2001 Farnam Street.

Broken Mirror is an improvisational theater production exploring teenage girls and the issues they deal with every day. Cast member Ciera Hollingsworth says, "Broken Mirror is a play that explores the lives of girls from all walks of life - big, small, white, brown, happy, depressed, outgoing, shy. Some of the girls have positive lives; some have negative lives. This play is like an open diary - a living diary - of a girl's life."

The cast talks about issues that affect girls and dramatizes them. The show includes scenes, skits, poems, haikus, songs, and monologues all created and inspired by the girls involved in the show. Every year, the script is different because the girls in the cast have different challenges, thoughts, ideas, and dreams. In the past, scripts have included the following topics: homework, sex, siblings, depression, shoes, drugs, friends, parents, shopping, cliques, suicide, religion, and more. Parents should be aware that any of these issues may end up in the final script, which will result in some serious moments, some funny moments, and a great deal of insight. Because of this, Broken Mirror is recommended for audiences ages 13 and older.

This year's cast members are Binto Adan, Makai Adan, Elisabeth Astwood, Samee Callahan, Yadira Cardenas, Breonna Collins, Dominique Edwards, Jaynesha Graves, Ciera Hollingsworth, Hawa Ibrahim, Michalene Johnsen, Danaya Johnson, Dejah Johnson, Gabrielle Jones, Emma Lansdale, Carly Mendlik, Michaela Odens, Maggie Peterson, Samantha Robb, Kaitlyn Tonack and Bethany Ziegler.

Broken Mirror #10 will be presented Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 13 at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 14 at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 and may be purchased at The Rose Box Office 2001 Farnam Street or by calling (402) 345-4849.

Broken Mirror is part of The Rose's Teens 'N' Theater program, a series of shows and performances performed by teens for teens. Broken Mirror #10 is sponsored by The Mammel Foundation and The Nebraska Arts Council.
