Theatre Tulsa's 96th Season Continues With THE WEDDING SINGER

By:

Theatre Tulsa will finish its 96th Season Broadway Series of popular musicals with the retro rock musical "The Wedding Singer."

Based on the 1998 romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, "The Wedding Singer" is a musical adaptation with music by Matthew Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin, and a book by Beguelin and Tim Herlihy.

The show follows Robbie, an aspiring 1980s rock star who sings at weddings but can't keep celebrating love after his failed relationship with former fiance Linda - until he finds a new budding romance with his waitress friend Julia.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 2006 and had several US tours starting in 2007. It was nominated for the 2006 Tony Award for Best Musical.

The cast stars Stephen Zenishek as Robby and Lindsay Powell as Julia. The supporting cast features Kaley Durland as Holly, Ian Weddle as Glen, Fletcher Gross as Sammy, Ben Rodriguez as George, Billie Sue Thompson as Rosie, Marissa Hess as Linda and Jenny Guy as Angie.

The ensemble includes: Karmen Blessing, Pete Brennan, Jacob Brockunier, Kolby Caldwell, Kia Dorsey, Stefan Easter, Dustin Harmon, Steven Lambie, Amanda Merkel, Tatum Nelson, Dan Nguyen, Natalia Rossi, Veronica Smith, Caleb Stirewalt, Shannon Walsh and Robert Young.

The production is directed by Theatre Tulsa's executive director Jarrod Kopp, and choreographed by Jennifer Alden. Christy Stalcup is the musical director.

Performances will be April 5-14 in the John H. Williams Theatre of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. Evening showtimes on April 5-6, 11-13 are at 8 p.m. Matinees on April 7 and 14 will be at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at tulsapac.com or by calling 918-596-7111.
