THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is coming to City Rep October 9 through 25, 2009 at the CitySpace Theatre at the Civic Center Music Hall. SPELLING BEE has music and lyrics by William Finn and a book by Rachel Sheinkin.

The show places the audience at an actual spelling bee, but underneath the show's wacky comedy there is an insightful look at the dark side of American ambition and competitiveness, and the insecurities and fears we all face every day. We are these kids, we finally realize, always being tested one more time, never able to rest on our past accomplishments. You'll laugh your ass off and then spend the next week on your therapist's couch.

Next up is A TUNA CHRISTMAS by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard, November 20 through December 13, 2009 at the CitySpace Theatre.

In this hilarious sequel to Greater Tuna, it's Christmas in the third-smallest town in Texas. Radio station OKKK news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities, including hot competition in the annual lawn display contest. In other news, voracious Joe Bob Lipsey's production of "A Christmas Carol" is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills. Many colorful Tuna denizens, some you will recognize from Greater Tuna and some appearing here for the first time, join in the holiday fun. A Tuna Christmas is a total delight for all seasons, performed by two quick-changing comedians playing a host of zany characters.
