Pollard Theatre Closes A TERRITORIAL CHRISTMAS CAROL, 12/23

An Oklahoma tradition for over three decades, the Pollard Theatre in historic downtown Guthrie proudly presents their yearly classic, A Territorial Christmas Carol: An Oklahoma Tradition beginning Friday, November 26, 2010. An all-time best seller, A Territorial Christmas Carol continues to dazzle audiences and play to sold-out houses into its twenty-third year.

"This production sells out every year," Pollard Theatre Managing Director Van French said. "If you want to see this show, you need to buy your tickets early!" Adapted by gifted Oklahoma playwright, Stephen P. Scott, this version of Charles Dickens' classic tale of redemption and brotherly love is set in Guthrie in the days of the Oklahoma Land Run.

"A Territorial Christmas Carol is more than a Pollard tradition; it is the greatest example of our professional philosophy - good storytelling above all else," Pollard Artistic Director W. Jerome Stevenson said. "Often, Dickens' story is produced with a focus on spectacle and flash and unfortunately the heart of the story is sacrificed. Our aim is always to tell the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge's redemption and allow the production value to serve that story."

Stevenson continued, "A Christmas Carol is perhaps the most produced story the world over and I believe it's because audiences continue to find hope in it. Hope in the idea that it is never too late to change the course of your life; never too late to be better than we are. With A Territorial Christmas Carol, we place our focus on the ideas of Dickens' work and less on reinventing the show with spectacle and effects."

A Territorial Christmas Carol: An Oklahoma Tradition begins Friday, November 26 and runs through Thursday, December 23 with evening and matinee performances. Tickets range in price from $15-25 and can be purchased online at www.thepollard.org or by calling (405) 282-2800.

Groups of 10 or more are eligible for group discounts and the Pollard also offers student matinees to school groups. The student matinee program allows teachers to integrate both the story and the overall theatrical experience into their History, Literature, Arts and Humanities curriculum. Student matinees sell quickly. Schools are encouraged to contact the Pollard Theatre box office to make arrangements.

Tickets for the December 1 show are only $15 as part of the Guthrie Chamber of Commerce's fundraiser "Pack the Pollard." Tickets can be purchased from the Guthrie Chamber of Commerce by calling (405) 282-1947.

The Pollard Theatre Company was formed in 1987 as the focal project of the Guthrie Arts & Humanities Council, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Located in the heart of historic downtown Guthrie, Oklahoma, the Pollard produces six major productions a year, with an emphasis on creative story-telling that illuminates the shared human experience. Built around the core of their resident company members, the Pollard additionally utilizes the talents of skilled theatre artists from across the region. Season after season, the Pollard brings shows never before produced in the state while continuing to set the standard for quality theatre in Oklahoma.
