The first Parlor Play of the season is Penguin Blues, a wonderful “dramodey” written in One Act by Ethan Phillips, an accomplished Broadway, film and television actor - probably most recognized for his portrayal of Neelix in Star Trek Voyager.
The Parlor Plays are an exclusive and intimate style of theater performance and social event presented in association with Nuance Theatre Co. and John DeSotelle Studio and held at the NuBox Theatre - newly located in Hell’s Kitchen.
The ticket price includes pre-show appetizers plus a complementary glass of wine or a beer (non-alcohlic beverages are also available) and relaxed socializing in the “Parlor” before the performance.
After the show the audience is invited to stick around for an informal social hour, mingle with the actors and director, perhaps take part in a discussion about the production or simply sit back and relax.
SYNOPSIS: 'A nun walks into a bar... ' Penguin Blues seems ripe for a punchline; but beneath its rich veil of humor is a human drama of loneliness, broken trust, unhealed wounds, forgiveness, and redemption. At the heart of every lie is a small, terrified truth; sometimes the hand that reaches out to it is the one we'd least expect.....
