A bagel who dreamed of being a croissant, young Matt Rosenstein longed for a life that was far more sophisticated and interesting than his own as a suburban teenager in the 1990s. His one prayer? “Make Me French!” Matt was determined to not just LEARN French but to BE as French as possible – going so far as to call Air France from payphones, just to practice speaking with a real, live French person! Finally, he moved to Paris to fulfill his dream - but not without learning some hilarious lessons along the way.
Now, this singer and storyteller extraordinaire wants to share what he’s learned about our most misunderstood ally, through stories and songs - from Broadway showtunes to French disco. Featuring a four-piece band and backup singers, come discover the answers to burning questions such as “Why do French people not get fat? Are they rude? Do they hate Americans?”

Interview: Matthew Rosenstein on MAKE ME FRENCH at the Beechman
June 24, 2026 After a sold-out performance last year, Matthew Rosenstein brings Make Me French back to the Beechman for Bastille Day, 7/14. The show follows Rosenstein, “a bagel who dreamed of being a croissant,” on his journey to become as French as possible, including moving to Paris, through stories and song! Recently, we had the chance to speak with Rosenstein about bringing the show back to the Laurie Beechman Theatre. We discussed the creative process for a cabaret show like Make Me French, what audiences can expect from the show, and even some of the cultural differences he’s noticed between the French and Americans!
