Women Working With Women Collaboration Awards to Take Place Mar. 2
New York Coalition of Professional Women in the Arts & Media will present its biannual Collaboration Awards at a champagne reception at the Gershwin Hotel, 7 East 27th Street, on March 2, 2009, at 6:30pm, Co-Presidents, Erica Silberman & Lisa Barnes announced today. Winners of the $1000 prize are Jennifer Gibbs, author of the play, Sounding & its director, Kristin Marting. Gibbs based the play, currently in workshop at HERE, on Henrik Ibsen's The Lady from the Sea. Marting & Gibbs plan a multi-media production, including film & music.
Runners-up for the award are Carol Todd & Catherine Eaton for their screenplay, Showers of Happiness, currently in production; cabaret performers, Melanie Adelman & Ellie Dvorkin for their cabaret musical, Mel & El, This Show Rhymes; Shirley Lauro & Alexis Greene for their anthology of plays by women: Political Visions, which will be published in May & Elyse Singer & Ruth Margraff for their opera, Wellsprings.
The awards are underwritten by Special Advisor to the Coalition, Sherry Eaker & Past President, Elsa Rael.
The event will be hosted by the Coalition Board & its Honorary Artistic Advisors including musical collaborators, Nancy Ford & Gretchen Cryer & playwright & performer, Leslie Ayvazian. The event will honor Women's History Month & SWAN Day (Support Women Artists Now, a campaign initiated by the Fund for Women Artists.)
