Born in a neighborhood that speaks 167 languages, Theatre 167 was invented to embrace collaborative work, investigate cultural interactions, and celebrate community.

SUITCASE is inspired by folk tales and fairy tales collected in conversations conducted on the streets of Jackson Heights, the most diverse neighborhood in the world - tales hailing from Burma, China, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Korea, Latin America, Mexico, Pakistan, Thailand, and beyond.

Honed during our 2010 Jackson Rep debut, 167 TONGUES, our creators use a unique system of collaborative creation - this is not seven one-acts, but one play by seven authors sharing characters, interweaving storylines.

Written by Mando Alvarado, Jenny Lyn Bader, Barbara Cassidy, Les Hunter, Joy Tomasko, Gary Winter and Stefanie Zadravec

A young woman arriving from Ecuador accidentally switches suitcases with a mysterious stranger. Her quest to recover the missing suitcase will lead her to encounter lovers, dreamers, fighters, a magical cell phone, books that come to life, and the best guitar player in the world. Seven authors created this play, combining magic realism with urban grit, melding multiple styles into one voice. Inspired by international folk tales collected in the most diverse neighborhood in the world.

Appropriate and fun for all ages.

The creative team includes Angie Balsamo (Dramaturg), Michael Wilson Morgan (Production Designer), and Nicole Pearce (Lighting Design), Antonia Fairchild (Line Producer), and the Sean McCain (Production Stage Manager).
