The Storm Theatre Company to Kick Off Fall Season with MARIUS, 9/7-10/13

By:

The Storm Theatre Company, under the Artistic Direction of Peter Dobbins, will begin performances of MARIUS by Marcel Pagnol on September 7th at Theatre at the Church of Notre Dame, 114th Street and Morningside Drive. Opening night is set for Monday, September 10th. The production is presented in association with Sase Sham.

Under the direction of Peter Dobbins, MARIUS will feature Gerard Adimando, Gabe Bettio, David Bodenschatz, Laura Bozzone, Ross DeGraw, Benjamin Jones, Dianna Martin, Anthony Russo, Jose Sanchez and Sawyer Mastrandrea. Set design is by Josh Iacovelli, costume design by Courtney Irizarry, lighting by Michael Abrams and sound by Kenneth Goodwin. MARIUS is adapted from the French by Zack Rogow. Stephen Day serves as Assistant Director.

MARIUS, written in 1931, is the first play of a trilogy which includes “Fanny” and “Cesar" that was later converted into a trilogy of films by the same name. Later the three works were combined in the Broadway musical “Fanny” and the motion picture of the same name. The trilogy is being filmed again at this moment by the great French actor Daniel Auteuil. MARIUS explores life’s mysteries and all its glories through the delightful inhabitants of the Bar de la Marine. It chronicles the trials of the young, daydreaming bartender Marius, who while desperate for a life at sea (and elsewhere) is torn by his love for the beautiful 18 year old Fanny.

Performances of MARIUS are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm with additional performances on 9/10, 10/3 and 10/10 at 7:30 pm and matinees on 9/22 9/29, 10/6 and 10/13 at 2:00 pm

Tickets for MARIUS are priced at $25.00 and can be ordered through www.smartix.com or by calling 212 868-4444. The Storm Theatre at The Theatre of the Church of Notre Dame is located at 114th Street and Morningside Drive (1 block from Columbia University). Take #1 train to 116th Street—walk 2 blocks south and 2 blocks east.

The Storm Theatre Company presented two acclaimed plays last season - George Lillo’s “The London Merchant” and Ferenc Molnar’s one hour comedy “The President."
