THE WHITE DRESS Receives Reading at Fire This Time Festival

Jonathan kisses girls, wears dresses, and shames his family. Inspired by the Stations of the Cross and German expressionism, THE WHITE DRESS examines a life lived outside of the gender binary.

This special reading is the latest work from Roger Q. Mason and is a part of the Obie-winning Fire This Time Festival. FRIGID New York at Horse Trade and The Fire This Time Festival provide a platform for talented early-career playwrights of African and African American descent to explore challenging new directions for 21st Century Theater. With ongoing momentum, The Fire This Time Festival has quickly become a destination for diverse audiences, producers, and artists seeking new possibilities and opportunities in contemporary theater.

The cast of THE WHITE DRESS features Adam Hyndman (Jonathan), Lee Edward Colston (Theo), Aurea Tomeski (Hazel), Walker Hare (Everyman) and Sophia Wang Sohn (Winnie).

Roger Q. Mason is a playwright whose work mines the intersection of history, memory, and identity. His plays include Orange Woman: A Ballad for a Moor; Onion Creek; The Duat; and The White Dress. Mason's works have been seen at such venues as McCarter Theatre Center, Ensemble Studio Theatre/LA; Son of Semele Theatre; Teatro Vista at Victory Gardens; and the Center on Halsted. He was a finalist of the inaugural Activate: Midwest New Play Festival and the winner of an Encore Producer's Award at the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Mason has received commissions from The Fire This Time Festival and Steep Theatre in Chicago. He holds an BA in English and Theatre from Princeton University and an MA in English from Middlebury College. Mason received his MFA in Writing for Screen and Stage Northwestern University.
