DETAILS AND ARTIST INFO:
"Scrambled Eggs" is a dish that has been passed down from generation to generation. To scramble an egg; First you pick it, crack it, let the contents fall into a bowl , beat it VIGOROUSLY until desired texture is reached and then the egg is cooked. This simple process is very similar to the process leading to domestic violence. The victims(eggs) are picked and later cracked by different forms of abuse, psychological, mental, emotional, and even economical. Once the victims are broken, they are isolated in their homes (egg in a bowl) where the beating begins and intensifies. Abusers believe the more they beat their eggs, the better the texture will be in the end. It is time to put a stop to domestic violence!
October is Domestic violence month. New Haarlem Arts Theatre and Faith Steps Productions present this provocative playreading to touch the core of this serious American issue.
"An average of three women in America die as a result of domestic violence each day. One in four women and one in thirteen men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. These statistics are even more sobering when we consider that domestic violence often goes unreported." (Domestic Violence Awareness Project)
